Chapter 7: The Changing Worker

This Chapter starter out talking about a guy by the name Tony O’Driscoll. The author first describes him as a 300 pound African American, then jumps to saying that he could be a paraplegic veteran in an office environment after Iraq or a middle manager from Ohio negiotiating a complex transaction with a team in Mumbai. This had caught my attention because I was interested in how the author had first perceived him as being a 300 pound African American to a middle manager from Ohio. As I kept reading I understood that the author was trying to explain the thought of having a “second life” or also known as an avatar.

An avatar is a character we make in a drama we shape with other avatars we encounter as described by the author. This means that we could perceive the second life of as anything we would want it to be. If I had an avatar I would perceive it as a girl the opposite of being me. I would have my avatar as a girl with no flaws in life which is impossible in reality.
