CUNY’s Summer Intensive for Public Policy (SIPP)– Application for Summer 2020 Sessions Now Open!

We are pleased to inform you that the City University of New York will initiate a pilot program this summer to provide additional opportunities to students affected by the ongoing pandemic.  CUNY’s Summer Intensive for Public Policy (SIPP) will offer a concentrated learning experience that helps build foundational knowledge of the public policy and decision-making process and offers training in career development.

More than ever, we are experiencing how public policy, and those who shape it, influence the everyday lives of individuals who continuously look to government to catalyze a more equitable society at a time of crisis.  Furthermore, over 60% of students who had jobs pre-COVID lost them—the CUNY SIPP represents a skill-building alternative to cancelled experiential learning options. The program is offered free of charge to CUNY students through support from private foundations.

Over the course of 4 days, the CUNY SIPP online training will guide students through the phases of policy making from issue identification to implementation and provide career training that will facilitate a path towards impactful, decision-making roles in government and business. The training will include presentations from leaders with experience service agencies and non-governmental organizations at all levels, interactive online activities, career development and help students understand how good policy is made in a diverse, dynamic setting like New York.

Interested candidates must submit the application form at the following link: https://cunysud.formstack.com/forms/sipp.

The priority application deadline is June 22, 2020. CUNY SIPP staff will contact students directly. Final deadline for Cohorts 2 and 3 is July 5, 2020.

Interested students should have completed a minimum of 24 credits by June 2020 and demonstrate an interest in and commitment to public service, government, advocacy and/or volunteerism.  The program will serve students from all parts of the CUNY community.

Students must be available over the course of one week in either July or August 2020 as per the schedule below:

  • Cohort 1: July 13 to July 16
  • Cohort 2: July  27 to July 30
  • Cohort 3: August 10 to August 13

All training will occur online in a virtual classroom setting. Access to internet over the course of the entire cycle is required to participate.
