Summary:
The author uses credible sources to show how the literacy rate in the United States has barely changed in the past 10 years which poses negative effects to the country as a whole. People who are an illiterate experience many problems in terms of economic security, getting proper access to healthcare and much more. These individual problems constitute to negativity on the country as a whole since those who are illiterate are more likely to get involved in illegal activities and violence. Hence, illiteracy is a problem in the U.S that should be addressed.
Evaluation:
This article helped me understand a lot about the problem of illiteracy in our country. It uses statistical data from credible sources to emphasize the seriousness on how the illiteracy rate in the country has not improved in the past 10 years.

Summary:
In this article, the author states uses references to state that 32 million adults in the United States cannot read. She uses this source to make a claim of how illeteracy leads to disadvantages for one self and for society as it inhibits many opportunities and leads to many threats to one’s well-being. She describes how the illiteracy rate hasn’t improved in a long period of time by bring up various support showing how adults don’t recieve proper access to a high quality education.
Evalutation:
This article was helpful in helping me understand the literacy problem in the U.S. It brought up many statistics which stated the amount of adults who werre illiterate, without a high school diploma, and lived in poverty to connect a trend on how illeteracy leads to several disadvantages to people. This article helps me as it relates to the previous article which can build up my study in this particular area.

Summary:
This article makes a claim that the literacy test which is mandatory for incoming teachers to take in order to teach in schools should be dropped. According to this statement, the literacy test is shown to be a hard test where only 41% of African Americans and 45% of Hispanics pass. Some claim that this test display discrimination because minorities encounter various difficulties such as poverty which can inhibit them from performing as well as caucassians. On the ohter hand, critics claim that these tests are necessary in order to ensure the highest education is provided to students.
Evalutation:
This article helps me understand more about my project because it shows how minorities lack access to proper education which can effect the limit their literacy potential. This can inhibit them from many personal and professional opportunities are they wouldn’t be able to compete with wealthy individuals. This comes to show how there are many factors which can effect the nation’s literacy rate.
