Response to Lonelygirl

We can draw a line between persuasion and manipulation when there is an intent to deceive using misrepresentation. For example, using proper facts or opinions or saying  statement without clearly knowing the full meaning can count as persuasive techniques. When a person has an intent to deceive such as lying or tricking using false misrepresentation, it would count as manipulation. For example in the lonelygirl videos, the scriptwriters and actors are trying to manipulate the audience into thinking that the actor is really lonely and home schooled. The actors really try to act as if they have no friends such as using persuasive methods such as talking about being home schooled, having strict parents which can be accurate information as they try to block out any obvious misstatements.

There is a direct link between fallacies and lies. When erroneous errors are made intentionally when making statements it counts as a life because the person would be intentionally  be trying to induce the other party to rely on the information. In the lonelygirl case, the actor is trying to market her (fake) daily life as a reality show in which she talks about her daily activities which seem believable.
