The Car Hanger is meant to keep your keys in a safe and secure place. This is a helpful tool for those who have “push-to-start” cars. These cars usually don’t have a keyhole or a designated area to place your car keys. Many people tend to keep their keys in their lap, the cup holders and even the glove compartment. This could cause issues such as the keys falling near the gas pedal, getting locked out of the car etc. In order to eliminate this issue I decided to design The Car Hanger. The Car Hanger will provide a safe and secure place for the driver to hang their keys. The clips on the car hanger allow for easy assembly and the closing ring makes sure to keep your keys secure and locked in place!
Prototype Update
I took another look at my previous assignment and came to the realization that even the car keys issue isn’t a big enough issue to be considered an actual problem but rather an inconvenience. That is why I decided that I am going to go with the creative route.
I thought this idea was interesting and decided to go with it to see how it would actually look. I think this product would still be used by people and particularly those who have “push to start” cars. I also have a “push to start” car and have often found myself in similar situations. I think it would be beneficial to those who are going to work or those who drive often. This would be a lot more convenient for them and allow them to save time and avoid the issue of forgetting the keys in the car.
I have seen people using lanyards to solve this issue but not everyone wants to walk around with a long string hanging from their back pocket or around their neck. I have also seen people using suction hooks that they can just attach to their windshield. My cousin had tried this solution and found that the keys would fall off the hook or even the suction itself would just fall off.
As for finding representative customers and getting feedback I would find people who I think would use the product and see through them and get their feedback. I would conduct a survey to see what aspects of the product they liked or disliked.
Assignment #3
For my interview I wanted to make sure my cousin didn’t know that she was being interviewed. I talked to her as if it was any other day and tried my best to get the best feedback that I could.
As we continued talking I found that she had tried to solve this issue in many other ways but eventually I came to the conclusion that this wasn’t a big enough issue to be considered a problem.
We had talked several times over the week and I had found that maybe there is another problem that could be solved. My cousin has issues with losing her keys in the car and often times finds that there is no proper place to keep her keys. She has tried keeping the keys in different places such as, in the cupholder or on her lap and that has caused more of an inconvenience as the keys kept falling on the car floor which was a potential danger.
Taking these things into consideration I thought it would be a good idea to make a place for the keys in the car. I thought it would make sense to have an attachment that would latch onto the rearview mirror that allows you to hang your keys from it. This way the keys would not fall and they would be right in front of her whenever she needs them.
Customer Assumptions
Important and Easy to Test:
My cousin actually finds this to be a real problem and not a inconvenience.
This is important because its better for the market to feel the need to have your product than simply want to have it. It brings on more demand. Just how we read about the vitamins and aspirin. More people feel the need to take aspirin rather than take vitamins.
Not as Important and Hard to Test:
My cousin prefers my product over other alternatives. This product will help her with what she’s looking for and will satisfy her fashion needs as well.
It would be hard to test if my product meets her fashion needs and to see if she would prefer this over a normal heel or an alternative to my product.
Important and Hard to Test:
My cousin wants something that can help with wearing heels that she likes without having the issue of them sinking into the grass and this product is the best option for her.
It is important to know how well your product performs compared to those already on the market. This would be harder to test because the consumer needs to compare it to other similar products on the market.
Not as Important and Easy to Test:
She would still be wearing heels as much as she did before Covid-19.
The need for the heels might change because of quarantine and people not being allowed to leave their homes as much. This would cause a change in the need for the product.
TinkerCAD Assignment #2
For my target market I chose my cousin. I chose her because I have noticed that she is constantly complaining to me about how her heels always get stuck when she walks in the grass. I thought that would be a really fun thing to solve so I that is exactly what I did. I had seen a few years ago, an attachable base to put on your heel so that they don’t sink but they were very unattractive and ruined the look of the heels. I took that idea and decided to instead of have it be a separate attachable piece to just add it to the actual heel. This way I can solve the problem and make the heels look fashionable as well! I found the heel online through one of the 3D websites that Will had shown us. I added the bottom part to complete the idea of the heel I was trying to create.
