This week we learned chapter 9 which include the information about economic and education. According to the book, we know that economics globlization has a big social problem, including people who have high levels but can not find a job. A lot of people who are graduated from colleges with loans but still unemployment. This point make me think the Wall Street Protest which was happened last year.

Occupy Wall Street (OWS) is an ongoing series of demonstrations. The evens happen in New York City based in Zuccotti Park in the Wall Street financial district. The protesters’ slogan ” We are the 99% refers to the difference in wealth and income growth in the U.S between the wealthiest 1% and the rest of the population. From the links, we knows a lot of people could not find a job and  million of people lost a job, but most of them have a high levels education. people felt that the government is controlled by rich people because rich people benefited by a  better education. Rich people become more rich and poor people become more poor. Even if the economic crash but banks are still give incredible bonuses  to the CEO. People expected and hoped that the government could give more benefits and financial support to poor people.

I think people have a right to protest. The Occupy Wall Street protests is really helpful for the people who are not satisfied about the social and economic inequality, corporate greed, corruption and influence over government, particularly form the financial services sector-and lobbyists. Everyone working together can give the government much pressure that they can get more chance to accomplish their goals. If people have a problem but they do not speak up, they will be in a bad condition forever.

One Response to Economics and Education VS Wall Street Protest

  1. st094555 says:

In the autumn of last year the Financial District was occupied by the movement called “Occupy Wall Street”. Thousands of angry and jobless Americans were gathering at the roads of Downtown Manhattan. Civilians showed their bitterness with the economical and financial policies of the country. After the financial downturn and the housing bubble burst, millions of Americans were forced out of their homes and became jobless as many major companies laid out its workers.

Occupy Wall Street became a major media target, for nearly a month protesters stayed at New York City’s Zuccotti Public Park. They were protesting against the US financial system and the system of governance. As a 9-year old boy in the video says: “It is the reverse of the Robin Hood. Rich people are stealing from the poor and rich people becoming more rich.” Even 9-year olds are concerned about the politics. Occupy Wall Street protest sparked more protests is some parts of the United States. Even at our Baruch College there were some small protests by the people from the Occupy Wall Street and some CUNY professors while the CUNY committee had a meeting. It almost went out of control, but NYPD quickly cleared out the protestors.

There were some instances that NYPD had to use some violence against the protestors. Occupy Wall Street was a major event that news were spread around the world. In some parts of Europe it sparked some actions. In my opinion, these actions are the signs that the US and the World Economy is not doing well. According to Karl Marx, people are suffering from the “too much” of production. Nowadays, automatic machines has taken over the human work. Massive amounts of jobs are shipped to China, where is labor is cheap.

In conclusion, these major events are being caused by the actions of the government and the disruptions in the economic system. People have to be heard and somehow we have to come up for the peaceful solutions. For instance, ending war in the Middle East and Afghanistan where millions of dollars have been spent, and growing number of soldiers and people are being killed. We need to take an action for our better future.
