Diversity Career Expo Recap

Back by popular demand, the Starr Career Development Center’s 3rd annual Diversity Career Expo was back on February 15th, 2018 in collaboration with the Baruch SEEK Department and Urban Male Leadership Academy (UMLA). The Diversity Career Expo offered students a variety of ways to interact with employers such as a mini career fair, job search workshops and a keynote address. This year’s record breaking event attracted over 600 Baruch undergraduate students who networked with representatives from 26 professional organizations representing a variety of industries.

The event kicked off with the highly anticipated keynote speaker Baruch SEEK and UMLA alumni and HCM associate at Goldman Sachs – Jeffrey McClellan. Mr. McClellan presented on Leveraging Our Differences & Demystifying the Recruiting Process alongside one of our current seniors, Jeffrey Ascota, who interned at Bank of America and will be returning to Bank of America full time after graduation. In addition to the keynote address, Goldman Sachs graciously provided food and beverages for everyone who attended the keynote presentation.

As the keynote speech was going on, more Baruch students lined up eagerly awaiting the mini career fair part of the event. Students quickly reviewed the Diversity Career Expo booklet and checked the Starr Twitter Page (@BaruchSCDC) to gather information regarding career opportunities at the 26 companies present at this event. Among the companies in attendance were: Amazon, American Express, Barclays, Brown Brothers Harriman, Google, Moody’s, iCrossing, R/GA, Ralph Lauren, and Teach for America, to name a few!

In addition to the mini career fair, students were also invited to attend Meet-and-Greet sessions at the Expo. Students had the opportunity to hear more about the St. John’s University Ron Brown Law School Prep Program and The CUNY School of Law Pipeline to Justice Program. The other sessions included job-search-strategy workshops co-sponsored by the Students Veterans Association and another co-sponsored by Student Disabilities Services. These workshops provided students with the opportunity to gain valuable insight on how to embrace their unique qualities and connect with some of the featured speakers from KPMG, Moody’s, TD Bank, and Yelp.

The Starr Career Development Center would like to thank the faculty and staff, employer partners, guest speakers, co-sponsors and Baruch alumni involved in the Diversity Career Expo. Most importantly, Starr would like to thank the 600+ undergraduates for attending the Spring 2018 Diversity Career Expo. The Starr Career Development Center is dedicated to supporting our students’ career development needs while partnering with employers to meet their hiring needs. We look forward to welcoming you all back to many more successful events and career expos to come.
