Sustainability in your everyday life…
You can also start by taking small measures in your everyday life to become more sustainable. Remember, even the smallest of efforts accumulate to big changes. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
- Reduce your waste: Try to be aware of what you throw out. Are you wasting more than necessary?
- Simplify: simplify your life to the belongings that you use/enjoy on a regular basis.
- Replace disposables: wherever possible, replace disposable products with reusable ones! Tissue for hanky, cloth napkin for paper, disposable to rechargeable batteries…
- Buy used products:Instead of heading to Ikea, look for used items on sites such as Craigslist, Ebay, or Amazon, or through local consignment shops. Not only will you be consuming less, you may end up paying less and getting something special!
- Share: share things like books, magazines, movies, newspapers, etc.
- Reusable items: things like coffee mugs, shopping bags, napkins, etc. all come in the reusable variety. Pick up one of those instead. They may end up saving you money, but they’ll definitely (help to) save our world!
- Recycle, recycle, recycle! Think before you throw. Can you recycle your item?
- Composting: if you have the means and the space, start a small compost pile. Click here for good tips!
- Choose environmentally friendly products: go for recycled products, and products that create little waste.
- Save energy! Turn off your lights when you are not using them. You’ll be surprised how much energy you save when your aware.
