The Plastic Paradise

Plastic has become a very important part of people’s lives, from water bottles to cellphones, plastic is in almost everything. Because plastic can last forever, throwing it into the trash does not get rid of it, it will end up somewhere on Earth.

In a small piece of land near northwestern end of Hawaii is one of those places. Even though there is no human population there, we can still see plastic wastes created by humans and discarded by humans. This place is known as the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Although plastic can last forever, it will eventually break down into smaller pieces with exposure to the sun. Scientists have found that these small pieces of plastic are growing at an alarming rate in our oceans. Around 10 percent of fish in those areas of the oceans had eaten plastic. Imaging if those plastic pieces get into our water supply and we were to ingest those plastic, serious health problems would occur. We all heard of the saying “what goes around comes around”, the oceans are moving every day, and pushing those pieces of garbage to new locations every day, what is going to guarantee that those garbage won’t move back into our rivers or water supply.
