Celebrating big and small wins is another important element in maintaining a team’s motivation.
SMALL WINS
A skillful project leader knows to build small wins along the way. Small wins are the low-hanging fruit that can be picked as you work together, and by acknowledging them and celebrating them, you build and sustain motivation.
Examples of small wins to celebrate might include things like:
- finding a time where everyone on the team can meet
- everyone completes their “homework” for the team meeting
- the team submits the first part of the assignment – even if this is the team charter, you are on your way to completing the overall project!
BIGGER WINS
The big win relates to the goals the team identified in the team charter. Did you reach the goals you set for yourselves? What allowed you to do so?
Did you find the magic in unlocking the innate diversity in your team? Did you learn a little more about yourself and your teammates? Did you create a team charter – is this something you can use as a template for another project? Did you take on specific roles; did you try out new roles? Did you build a team mindset; is teaming more enjoyable?
