Three thoughts:
One thing that continued to reoccur in my mind while watching was which is worse; the individual violence committed by the droogs or the institutional violence committed by the government? Who do we sympathize with? The twisted individual who mercilessly raped and beat a woman with absolutely no guilt or remorse, or the government who is trying to curb such acts by committing terrible, if not worse acts on the individual. I almost feel as if we shouldn’t feel sorry for either, but only pity the people that have to be part of such a society ripe with degradation and corruption.
Why is such a dark, distorted film filled with bright, extravagant images and colors? Is this distancing us from the sTory or allowing us to step back and question our own immorality through the lense of such a demented individual and the debauched society that fostered such Criminality.
The entire tone and scope of this movie is separated by a thin line. Should we laugh at the absurdity or cry because of the bleakness that this movie lives in.
