Journal #1

After reading Rosenwasser’s “Writing Analytically” it unveiled a bunch of techniques of analyzing work that I had neglected many times.

One of the examples i learned is to not be so haste on judgement. I noticed that not only with reading papers but with tv shows or movies i am very quick to judge and watch based on my opinions. Rosenwasser explains thats we should not judge but instead read the paper for what it is. In effect the writing will be a lot more clear and you can comprehend it better.

Another technique i picked up during this reading is to formulate questions as you read a passage. When i read i usually just try to understand through whats written. Asking questions gives us a more in depth meaning of what the writer is trying to tell us and helps us as readers to be able to break down a piece of writing.

Lastly, i learned to not just skim though a piece but to actually read it of it entirety. When you skim through something, which i am guilty of often doing, you may only get the gist of a passage but you wont capture the details and meaning which is the whole point of reading in the first place.
