Response to Group Presentations

#IdontgiveaHuck:  This hashtag title went well with breaking the accepted social norms in the novel.  I agree that Huck’s views and believes are different from society, and at that time in history, it was “ground breaking.”  Huck’s battle with accepting his values over those of society shows the strong influence that laws have on what is right or wrong.  This was appropriately described by Huck believing that he still has a “social contract” to return Jim back to the Widow.  Huck is literally saying #IdontgiveaHuck when he ultimately accepts his views over society when he rips that letter to Miss Watson.

#Antisivilized:  The main point that I received from this hashtag was Huck’s raft as a representation of a home and freedom.  This shows the contrast of Huck’s views and society’s views.  Huck needs the bare minimum, while society requires people to constantly strive for more than what is needed to survive.  The tree example that was mentioned also shows the dangers and violence that is in society.  Huck not coming down is one of the few moments where we see fear in Huck.  This is another reason for why he just can’t be comfortable in society.

#HuckHood:  This hashtag should be used for instances where Huck is maturing in the novel.  I believe I would use this at every moment that Huck is rationalizing his decisions.  Also, I would use it towards the end of the novel when Huck blindly follows Tom and goes back to some immaturity.

#Illgotohell:  This hashtag strictly focuses on the morality of Huck.  All groups mentioned morality in one way or another, but I think that only this group brought up the gang of robbers at the beginning of the book.  I thought that this is a foreshadowing for Huck’s future actions.  He talks about doing wrong with this group, and breaking society’s laws, which he eventually does.
