Journal # 11

1. Finishing the novel, I thought it was interesting the way it ended. Huck, who’s been continuously running finally found a place to settle. I feel like that’s what Huck was searching for throughout his journey, a place to settle. Everywhere he went; it was unsuitable for him to stay. The Grangerford’s place was a nice to Huck but that didn’t last long because of the feud between the two families.

2. When Jim gave up his freedom to save Tom Sawyer, it showed a reflection of what Huck has done for Jim throughout the novel. Jim could have run away for his freedom but he decided to help the doctor operate on Tom. After he was captured, he didn’t show any retaliation but was submissive.

3. The three characters, Jim, Huck, and Tom Sawyer, have a stubborn personality. Tom was not willing to free Jim unless he got his way. He needed things to be done just like the way that were done from the books he read. He knew Jim was a freeman but he didn’t bother mentioning it to Huck because he needed his “excitement.” Jim’s stubbornness is shown when Huck and Jim were arguing about how the Frenchmen spoke. Huck is shown throughout the novel whenever his mind is set on a goal whether it’s to help Jim or Mary Jane. All of these characters are stubborn in their own way.

  1. Great points! Tom is not only stubborn but greedy. Unlike Huck and Jim, Tom is primiarly concerned about his self-interests.

  2. Ayoub Gur says:

All your thoughts are very clear; the one that I agreed with most is the point that spoke about Jim giving up his freedom to save Tom Sawyer. It showed a sense of caring and sacrifice, two deeds of which go around between Tom, Huck, and Jim.
