Journal #12 by Abulkhair Bekbenbetov

Upon the beginning of the Huck and Hashtags project, I was not too thrilled with the idea of using Twitter in order to explore the book. I thought that people would not be passionate enough about it, and because of technological requirements Tweets would not be frequent. Honestly, I was also not really enjoying the idea of tweeting about different themes and events in the book.

However, upon the completion of the project my opinion has changed. The main page made it easier for everybody to see other people’s tweets, and it also led to many interesting conversations. Human interactions made the project a lot more useful to understanding the novel not just on a plot level, but also on a deeper thematic and symbolic level.

Overall, I believe the utilization of Twitter was not as bad of an idea as I thought it would be. It was something innovative, and had a meaningful purpose of connecting users and allowing them to share their ideas with each other.

I don’t think there were many people that were thrilled with using Twitter either. I agree that the innovative part and the connection it drew between the multiple classes was the most important part that outweighed the dislike most students had for it.
