The reverse outline workshop made me think of my compare and contrast essay in ways I previously had not. Honestly, I do not think that my essay was that strong at all because it was only descriptive. It had the base of a potentially good analysis, but by itself was just a simple descriptive essay. The weakness were the lack of quotes, the lack of analysis and it had no clear point I was trying to prove.
My peers were extremely helpful in reworking my essay. Shumana helped me see that my idea of a character’s lying habits developed the character themselves as ironic. I had completely ignored that idea for some reason. Amanda helped me clarify some vague ideas I had in my draft. She also helped me reorder my paragraphs in a more coherent manner.
After hearing all of these new ideas from new perspectives, it made me realize I was right that my essay was weak. I’ll be including the main point of irony into my essay. I can’t believe that I had ignored it. I’ll also be making sure my essay has a flow and that every sentence has a meaning.
