Journal #13

Writing the Huck Finn paper was at first challenging. I couldn’t come up with a good idea, or thesis no matter how hard I tried. At last I came up with something I am happy with however it still wasn’t as good as I thought it could be. The in class writing session was very helpful, where I was forced to sit down and think about what I was going to write and why it mattered.

At first I was very all over the place with my thoughts and my ideas. Unsure of where I was going with my paper and thesis, if it was even worth sticking to. The workshop somewhat helped me identify issues with my paper and my writing.  A second opinion was helpful to see the errors in which I didn’t.

Structurally I was able to place my paragraphs into a good order which made sense. My thesis was able to become clearer and to the point and is placed well at the beginning of my essay. I was also able to write on things which needed improving and even remove things which were not necessary.

I also struggled to organize all the ideas and thoughts I had for this paper. As I kept trying to develop my thesis, I had no idea where I was heading towards. The workshops we had helped me organize my thoughts and create a path that I was going to go towards. After having my peer read my draft, it was great to have a second opinion like you said. Being able to see the perspective of another reader helped me focus on my thesis and also the need to answer the “so what?” question.
