The three ads I chose are focusing on disqualifying Hillary Clinton from many aspects.

However, I focused on the audio side of each ads including their use of music, and narrations that gives you certain impression with their voice and tones.

The primal ad was mainly discusses and list up how Hillary became rich from poor by playing politics. The music behind the videos is simple, saddle, slower, but dark melody and end with fade out. A woman made the narration, and her tone and speed were rather rushing and anxious than slow and confident. These sonic information give its viewer very anxious about Hillary especially when a woman gives such negative impression to Hillary who believed to supported by the most of women.

The second ad is discussing mainly about the terrorist threat that the U.S. is facing reentry, and declaring that Hillary is not qualified for such issues. The music behind the video is stronger and aggressive than the first video, and contains more instruments and movement. Towards the end of the video, violins come in to give the video a sense of urgent. The male narrator speaks low and strong voice. The strong voice accusing Hillary, and almost sound sarcastic when he say “Now she wants to be the president.” as if Hillary is completely unqualified to challenge to become a president.

Third video can be divided in two sections. The first half is accusing Hillary that since She has been serving as a politician so many negative affect occurred to the U.S. such as; taxes went up, terrorist threat, and jobs vanished. The second half talks that Trump will change the circumstance that cannot be changed by Hillary. The music component in the first half uses several strong, and rapid drum attacks to emphasize the negative part that seems to be done by Hillary, and the second half transpose with horn section and rising its melody as if Trump will lift up the nation. The same male narrator makes the narration from the second video, and his strong voice gives confident on both Hillary is not qualified as a president, and Trump’s strength to change the country if he is selected.

All three video have similarity and difference in their audio component to give certain impression to its viewer. The music tends to be dark and saddle when they discuss about Hillary’s qualification as a president, and emphasize her negative part. Uses explosion, or strong drum attack sound to gives impact to where the narrator would like to emphasize Hillary’s negative part. The narrations sound more sober when they talk about Hillary, and warm and confident tone when speaks about Trump. All videos are designed to accuse Hillary and depress her supporters and discourage them to vote for Hillary.

Group B Post

SOJOURNER TRUTH “ADDRESS AT THE WOMAN’S RIGHTS CONVENTION IN AKRON, OHIO” (29 MAY 1851) was one of the best know speech given by a women’s rights activist, Sojourner Truth. In this text, Truth sarcastically compares her ability against man that she can do anything that man can do and sometime she can do even more than man can do. Truth is declaring her ability is as equivalent as any man by repeating “as any man”, and claiming women do not receive as much rights “as any men”. Truth is accusing men for not giving women rights as man while it cost no risk to any man, and by not being able to do so, Truth insists that men are poor and useless with sampling the story from the bible when Jesus helped Lazarus. Truth concludes with that men were even nothing to do with Jesus’s birth and women gave Jesus a birth. Therefore, Truth finds men are in bad place and soon will the situation will be fixed I her last sentence “But man is in a tight place, the poor slave is on him, woman is coming on him, and he is surely between hawk and buzzard.”

In the recent presidential election, candidate Donald Trump accused candidate Hillary Clinton that reason she is in the position where she is because she is taking an advantage of being a woman, and if Clinton were not a woman, she would not have as many votes as she deserves today. Trump is accusing that Clinton uses her gender as a card to put her in the better place, and Clinton replies that it is right to use that card to fight for women’s right.

These two texts left me think that what is the difference between being fair and equal to each other when men and women are obviously not equal physically to begin with? Is it ultimately better to be equal in every aspect? It is the clear fact in the history, women had not been treated as equal “as any man”, and like Truth were fighting to deliver equal rights for women, the fight still continues today.
