Design Samples- Sze Ting Lee

IMG_4475  This is the photo I took on the bus, I think this is great word design is because it used two colors, Blue and write. Also, the weight is different. Like THE APOLLO. It made the size is same with the first line and second line. it made me feel the design is orderliness. Also, the blue word is tell me the details.

 

IMG_4484  This is DVD cover photos. “Cloud atlas” is the name of the movie. I like the word design because it is connecting and it made me think more about the movie story. It is cool design. At the top, there are names of the award and the detail of the movie. “CLOUD ATLAS” like the line to connect the movie and my memory of the movie.

IMG_4483 This is also the movie cover photos, the word is at the center of the cover. it made me know if I put the word between the photos. It will be the most important part. It is interesting word design in the cover photo. “BURN AFTER READING” it attract me to see the word and it also use the color difference. It use yellow and white. it match the background. I think it is good design.

IMG_4482This is the book cover. I think it  is very cute deign. I like the word and the picture under the word. It is a cute background and the word on the book like hand writing. It use all capital letters. it also show the reader very clear title name and the writer name.

IMG_4481 Last but not least, this is the book cover too. The book name is “front row”. I brought this book when I just came to United States. The reason i bought this book is because the icon of the picture is big and it seen like the Anna Wintour sign her name on the book. This is a very clear and detail book cover. Therefore, the cover made me bought this book. It is because the word and the design.

Illustrated Quote–Sze Ting Lee

For this project I used the quote, “You are not lucky. You are blessed.” First, I think the quote very meaningful to me. I always believe I am not lucky in everything .Although I work very hard, I know I always blessed. I feel thankful in every minutes.  About the image, I used yellow bulbs. I put the text in the middle with the image. Also, I made the circle and put the quote around the bulbs. I put the image be my background because it is bare color and it can catch people attention.

The typeface I chose was Helvetica and I placed them on all capital letter, and put two “blessed” at the last of the sentence. The reason I enter two times of the word “Blessed” was to show it is very importance. This two words were the key words and I wanted them to be large and emphasis. However, I change my idea. I think the same size to circle the word is more beautiful.

Last, I learned how to put text in the form of different shapes in InDesign. I also learned I need different ideas to design. Where I put the single word is my design, I looked at what could look good together with different location in the picture.

 

Trace my name- Sze Ting Lee

For my Trace Your Name assignment, I chose the typeface is Century Expanded. When choosing the typeface, I have looked at others typefaces and compared each other. The letter in my name is JOYCE. I believe J-O-C is difficult. The reason I think is difficult is because of the “O”. There is 360 degree of the “O” that I am going to draw by myself without any help. I believe not many people can draw the prefect circle. However, I chose century expanded is because I personally like the style and it caught my attention, it is very clear and easy. I also believe “less is more” so I like to try this in this assignment.

Tracing my name JOYCE with capital is easier then small letter. It is because “Y” and “E” is straight lines. “J”, “O” and “C” was more difficult than “Y” and “E” . Drawing JOC make me pay more focus in the curvature and gradual shift the curves, especially the O.

My next words were “THE Peaceful.” This took less time because I was allowed to tracing of the worksheet. Tracing was easy with a steady hand. The issue is I do need to focus it and very carefully. Lastly, I finish it and I did it. I think it is interesting.

 

Expressive Words –Sze Ting Lee

When I was designing for this project in 25 designs. I thought about the meaning of each word and I created  the image. I tried to think about what each word meaning for me. For example, the word “strict”, I believe strict mean serious things. So I circle all the word in “S” “T” “I” “C” and “T”. It made the meaning more strong. I think it is easy to understand. Also, I have walk in the street and there are many logos in the difference shops. There all very clear and easy understand too.

For this project I decided to use all four versions of Helvetica because it was bold. It made my letters look very clean and sharp too.Before doing this project, I think more about the word meaning and the design. After doing this assignment, I learned how to change the words size, case, and also how too add the line on it. I believe when we practice more in InDesign. I will be more efficiency to show people what I design.

What is Graphic Design? – Sze Ting Lee

Graphic design is a communication design. Communication is part of the most important thing between people. Not only language but also design. Especially Graphic design.The article forced me to understand more of the differences and option that graphic design.Graphic design is all around and is present in our everyday life. According to the article, graphic design is a broad idea of the career; however, it can be very precise in different positions. Such as motion graphics, environmental graphics, advertising for commercial, and typographic. Also, ” such as a business card, sign, logo, or an advertisement are individual expressions of design, how those are experienced together and over time is the design work.” That shoe the Graphic design is how important in our daily life. At first, I just think Graphic Design is just one type of design and it is about the word and picture design. Now I know it is really useful and includes small things like business card to the business logo. I believe it will be very interesting and I really want to find out more about it.

After reading the article, I ask a question about the people who do the graphic design. What is the most difficult part and challenge separate in the Graphic design? In my personal opinion, I think creativity is always the tough part of the designer. It is because a creative idea can totally change the message of the products. For example, advertisement in promoting value is very important. Like the design have to deign the most indelible logo to the customer and make the customers have a good feedback for a product. There is marketing in the promotion too. As a result, I think the most challenging part is the designer of the product design, and make the customers understand the meaning and love the design.
