What do telephone interviewers do?

Telephone interviewers work in our Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) lab, calling survey respondents and conducting interviews over the telephone.

What hours do telephone interviewers work?

A telephone interviewer’s schedule depends on the nature of the survey and who the respondents are. Generally, our CATI lab is open 3pm – 9pm from Monday through Friday, 11am – 4pm on Saturday and 3pm – 9pm on Sunday during live surveys.

How much do telephone interviewers earn?

Interviewers receive a competitive hourly wage; they are not paid according to the number of interviews completed per day.

What are the requirements for becoming a telephone interviewer?

Good telephone interviewers are generally patient, comfortable with computer data entry and can speak clearly over the phone. Prior interviewing experience is not required, though it is preferred. Previous knowledge, experience and/or training in survey research and the research process is recommended, though no required. Once hired, all telephone interviewers must complete the Collaborative Institute Training Initiative (CITI) program, an online certification that must be completed by all persons who engage in research with human subjects.

Are telephone interviewers trained?

All new telephone interviewers are trained in the usage of the CATI lab and the basics of survey research. Interviewers are supervised by experienced staff and monitored for quality and compliance.

Do you employ students?

Yes! Students at both the undergraduate and graduate level with an interest in research, survey research and/or polling are encouraged to apply. Students will be able to work hours that fit into their current class schedule and no additional work outside of the CATI lab is required.
