Robert C. Weaver, the first President of Baruch College, was an economist with a longstanding commitment to racial justice. Appointed by President Lyndon B. Johnson Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, making him the first African American member of a Presidential Cabinet. Dr. Weaver became Baruch College’s first President in 1969. He brought to the role a commitment to equity and racial and social justice and a clear dedication to the idea that, for a city to succeed, everyone in it must thrive.
