Ethnicity, Culture and Diversity

A diverse group of people

In the link provided below is an essay on ethnicity, culture and diversity that illustrates how factors other than parental upbringing develop a person’s values and work ethic. Factors such as cultural norms, attitudes and preferences contribute to the prediction of cultural values of an individual which can be applied to native Chinese and Asian American environments specifically. America’s cultural norms, attitudes and preferences are completely different than native Chinese’s. For example, parenting in China can consist of not feeding & hitting a child until the child completes a certain task which is seen as normal in China but would be considered child abuse in America. The cultural values that a child grows up with in China are dependent on whether these situations are seen as normal in their culture so that they can embrace these difficult situations and become stronger and more adept to such circumstances.
