This class was one of the most inspiring and engaging in this fall semester. I came out of this class not just as an inspired writer but also an inspired person. I have seen a lot of improvements in my writing and also learned many ways to strengthen it throughout these 15 weeks. This class has influenced my perspective what it means to be a good writer and made me feel more confident about my writing. I have realized that I am a more confident writer when I write about something I care about or am passionate about. Through this class, I understood the power that an individual’s writing holds, and it will always stay with me.
A writing that I am particularly proud of is the Literacy Narrative. Telling my own story through my writing and being motivated by it was powerful. When I was writing this piece, every word came naturally to me. From the beginning to the end, I was engaged and passionate about telling my story. Throughout the process, I discovered more about myself and my potential that I had underestimated. It took me to the nostalgia of when I was a child and relieved some old memories. It taught me that we have to look at our past in order to see how far we have come. It gave me a chance to stop for a moment and think of the many obstacles that I overcame, all the achievements and hard work behind it. As I was writing, I realized that we don’t always have to write for others to read, writing for ourselves is equally important.
One piece of writing that was challenging was the Rhetorical Analysis. This piece was challenging to me mainly because I have never written a piece like this before. This type of writing was somewhat new to me. Analyzing the movie itself was challenging and having to use critical lenses added on to it. Usually, I only watched movies for entertainment purposes so analyzing a movie by focusing on every detail was not easy for me. It felt overwhelming but the outlines and guides provided were very helpful. Although this writing piece was challenging for me, it was a good learning experience.
