“Everybody talks about finding your voice. Do your homework and your voice will find you.” -Branford Marsalis
This quote discusses the journey of trying to find yourself, which at the end of the day is more difficult when you’re looking for it. By doing your homework, you’re able to become knowledgeable and prepared for action and decision making in life. Homework isn’t only the work given by academic structures but the ways you go about learning. Once you become intelligent, you are able to have a better understanding of not only yourself but your surroundings, resulting in a better use of your voice and expression. I chose this quote because by my individual experience, I came to realize how much learning I had to go through in order to understand myself and become self aware. Moving countries was a difficult journey I went through, leaning a new language and culture brings a lot of questions and indecisions about your identity. By doing my homework I was able to find my place in a new society and understand where I belong.

When I saw this quote I didn’t know how to interpret it, but I think you explained it well. Knowledge is power. Once one has knowledge through some form of education or learning experience, they will have the tools to advocate for whatever they believe in. And like you said, homework can help prepare you for action and decision making in general.
I like how you explained this quote and developed a true meaning of it by relating it to knowledge and finding yourself/voice. The more experience/knowledge you have, navigating the world becomes easier.
I love the example you provided to explain the quote. I think it is extremely important to be knowledgeable as it is the basis of everything in life. Everyone goes through hardships and challenges in life and knowledge can help ease the hardship and provide comfort, just like you explained when you moved countries.
