I am from the track
from Arizona cans and soccer balls
I am from the small quiet town
I am from the trees
the shaded benches
I am from family weekend dinners
and food comas
from Nina
and Julia and Andre
I am from the over generous
and overlovers
From health conscious
and hard working
I am from over eaters
Further description.
I’m from Ukraine
Pilemeni and soup
From the time my grandparents immigrated to America with nothing
the long nights hanging outside
and the non stop jokes from my grandpa
I am from hardships turned joy and happiness
This poem gave a sense of belonging because you mentioned having family dinners and over generous/ overloving people. I relate to this because my family is the same.
I like how family oriented you are it is especially good in a poem.
When I read this, I couldn’t help but notice the similarities that we share. I, too, am from a small town and my family also partakes in weekend dinners.
I liked the flow of the poem and how it all correlates. I can also relate looking forward to family dinners every weekend.
I really like the imagery in this poem, it really paints a picture for the reader. Great job!
Reading this poem, I was pulled to our similarities in Slavic culture, especially the pilmeni and soup. Your poem gave me a sense of comfort.
