Where I’m From

I am from The Empire State

From boroughs and boroughs,

I am from the concrete city

And yet, I am also from the diverse jungle

the lone plant that sprouted from the crack

I am from a foreign sprout

and resilience inherited

From Lin and Wang

I am from the prospecting

and insightful.

From catching opportunities

to making them.

I am from eastern tradition

I’m from the Empire State (place of birth and family ancestry)

I am Benjamin Lin.

  1. I found your poem very interesting and thought you made it flow well. One line that caught my eye was “The lone plant that sprouted from the crack, I am a foreign sprout”. I liked this line especially because of the word play and how you compared yourself to the sprout.
