Orange Cake

Ingredients;

  • 8 eggs
  • 2 bars of butter
  • 4 cups of sifted flour (what kind? idk my mom buys the ingredients I’m just the sous-chef man)
  • 1 cup of sifted sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 orange

First, you beat the butter (preferably with a mixer), slowly add the sugar, the egg yolks, and then add the flour, and also add the baking powder, little by little. Add the grated orange, the orange juice, and half a cup of milk, slowly. (be patient and do not rush, will not be in it’s full potential otherwise.)

Separately, beat the egg whites to the point of being whipped (fluffy white) and gradually add the entire mixture to the whipped eggs.

Small tip; Rub the inside of the mold with butter and a little flour before adding the mixture so it doesn’t stick to the mold.

Then bake for 45 minutes (poke the cake with a toothpick or fork occasionally to see if it’s baked before then, fully baked when the batter does not stick) at 300 degrees.

Finally, put frosting on the cake once it’s cooled down (unless you’re my mom who doesn’t like frosting, then just eat as is)

P.S. A good Coca- Cola, in a glass bottle, on the side with it will make the experience complete.

I learned how to make this recipe from helping my mom bake the cake since I was a kid. It is my fondest memory as a kid with her, as she would work a lot and would take this time to bond and just talk while we baked. We would always make it for special occasions ex; graduations, birthdays, or just whenever she had the ingredients for it. I always enjoyed helping her, specifically with zesting the orange. Something about zesting is very satisfying for me. It will always be my favorite type of cake and it is a sign we are close if I decide to share it with a person besides my family, that’s how much I absolutely adore this cake.
