- I feel like writing the Exhaustive Documentation was really helpful. It didn’t only help me put most of my ideas down on paper. But doing this also helped me develop a claim and argument. This is because as I wrote I was able to reflect. I feel like Hengel’s method is just too complicated. You are coming up with a claim before fully analyzing the text. Whereas with the Exhaustive Documentation you’re able to write down your ideas and come up with a claim and argument that you know for sure is correct and can relate to the text.
- Abdurraqib answers the questions Hengel presented with his description of the Carly Rae Jepsen concert. He describes how people act and how they feel from Jepsen’s album “Emotions”. “The feelings barrels toward you as the lights go down and the signature saxophone part from Run Away With Me blankets the eager crowd: anything is possible.” Here Abdurraqib describes a part of the concert that makes your feelings run wild and make you feel that you can do anything. There is also an instance where Abdurraqib mentions how Jepsen’s music makes fans feel like their her friend and they can confide in her. This shows how emotionally involved people were with her music and how it helped many.

Thanks, James! Yes, I totally agree with what you wrote about Abdurraqib. In a way, it reminds me of your analysis: he writes very observantly about something while also making it clear that he’s a huge fan; he depicts his own emotional involvement in it and writes thoughtfully about what in the text inspires that involvement.
