Writing the exhaustive documentation definitely helped me get started on my writing because I was able to freely write down my analysis for the text I am analyzing. I found myself asking the text questions I know listeners would have while listening to the text. This would help create a claim/argument because I myself was also curious to keep on listening and figure out the micro details that seem to be unnoticeable. I noticed that while writing my exhaustive documentation I was writing about the surface of the song which is what was needed for the documentation. Next up, when I write my draft I will listen to the text again and write way beyond the surface. However, this may be hard for some because as we keep writing about our text some people may run out of things to write about when done with their exhaustive documentation.
Abdurraqib answered Hengel’s questions about his subjects in both of his stories by describing how music makes people feel all types of different emotions. For instance, in Carly Rae Jepsen’s story he describes how people react and feel differently to her music. He says, “This is difficult work: convincing a room full of people to set their sadness aside and, for a night, bring whatever joy remains underneath.” That comes to show how Abdurraqib noticed how much Jepsen’s music impacted the emotions of the crowd. When she sang a love song all the couples started showing each other their love, when she sang a sad song the crowd go noticeably sad following the song. Abdurraqid saw these things and showed how and why it mattered just how Hengel describes.
