I decided to analyze the Riverside Deli located on Palisade Avenue in Yonkers, NY. I was there on a busy Friday morning and I noticed every one ordered one thing similarly – a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. From my own observations, I noticed some people used a bagel for this while others used a roll. Then the toppings varied- ketchup, salt, paper, hot sauce. In my own analysis, people were typically ordering a normal BEC. But then, others would order it with egg whites or turkey bacon which lead me to the conclusion they are trying to be healthier. The biggest contrast was people’s toppings. As a philosophy major, I would probably ask people why would you order this sandwich? And when I got a response keep asking why? Philosophy majors analyze questions with no right answers. Some people may say they get this for convenience while others may get it because it’s their favorite food. Again, no right answer.
As a political science major, I may study the race, gender, and age of people in this deli. I would also comment on the race of people in the neighborhood vs the race of people who actually ordered this sandwich. This is a mixed race neighborhood so most of the people buying the sandwich were of all races. As a psychology major I may study the behavior of people when ordering the sandwich. While some are aggressive as if they are in a rush to leave, others may be timid and nervous to order. However, majority of the people most likely live in the neighborhood because they all understood where the lines formed and that you actually have to go up to get your food, you aren’t called up. This was a repetition I noticed- that most people knew how to order from the deli.

The process was a little bit hard. I found trying to analyze something as a major that isn’t mine was quite difficult.

There’s nothing better than a New York bacon egg and cheese from your local deli. Connecting race with this analysis can definitely lead to a deeper understanding of how this deli has risen to success.
I liked how you noticed how people were trying to find healthier alternatives to the Bacon Egg and Cheese. I also, found interesting how you have figured that people would go there a lot because they knew how to order from that certain deli.
I like the way you analyzed, and you also add you observations on how they choose their meal. also you choose the philosophy major, and I like how you think students majoring philosophy will ask question, this is also a question i want to ask if I’m majoring philosophy.
I found it very amusing that you analyzed what the people were ordering. Some ordered a normal bacon, egg, and cheese, while others preferred the healthy alternatives.
It was really interesting seeing the way you use the majors you chose. I can relate to this by also writing about my local deli too.
