ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

  1. One process of inquiry I’ve pursued entirely for pleasure is creating my own style. I have spent so many hours looking at outfits from specific aesthetics on Pinterest. Fashion and style is something really important to me because the way I dress is a way for me to tell people about myself before I even speak to them, so therefore it’s something that I put a lot of time and energy into. I have also realized that as I get older, I find myself gravitating towards different styles which consists of a more feminine, modest and professional look. I spend a lot of my free time looking at outfit inspiration, online shopping, or going to the mall to pick out specific pieces of clothes that I think would perfectly match my wardrobe.
  2. Something from my everyday life that I am passionate about is makeup. I enjoy buying makeup and doing different looks with it. I first got into makeup in 5th and ever since then, its been something that I have been extremely passionate about. Makeup is a form of art that I have learned through the act of watching tutorials and practicing to further my skills. Something I’m curious about is the production of the horror movies. I have heard so many stories of actors saying that working on the sets of horror movies has led to paranormal experience, such as waking up with random scars, hearing random loud noises or even objects falling without any reason. Something that makes me upset about is the social construction of masculinity and femininity. This is upsetting because men are generalized not show any emotion while women are made to seem overly emotional. Gender norms leads people to act on how they are expected to act by society instead of how acting on how they truly feel deep down.
  3. Something about research that I learned is that research can come in many different shapes and forms. Few examples of things that can be considered as research a books, articles, videos, music, pictures, letters, interviews, etc. Basically research can be done in person, online, or in person through talking to one another. Research is basically analyzing anything or everything due to passion, curiousness, or anything in between. Evidence doesn’t necessarily mean to support an argument, it can, but it could also be simple as looking up a food place on internet because you want to go out to eat later. Research could mean evidence to support something or just basic information to get you by.

  1. Hi Nish, thanks for these. I especially appreciated your sharing of possible daily-life ideas for research: I see a mixture of intellectual curiosity and emotional conviction here that I hope will also turn up in your paper!
