ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

Karen Leonardo Reading Response, 11/8

  1. One process of inquiry I have pursued for pleasure is skincare. I have had my fare share of struggling with my skin which really inspired me to do my own research to create a set everyday routine that I will stick to. A routine that not only will I enjoy doing but will also help my skin flourish. It was definitely not easy to find the right products but as I kept educating myself I learned what was right for my skin type and what was not.
  2. I have always been a very curious person ever since I was a child, I would always bother people with the amount of ongoing questions I always had about every little thing. It got to the point where my parents had to stop me from talking because it would be question after question. Some things I am always curious about are, how do certain products/chemicals affect the skin so drastically? How is climate change evolving so rapidly? Why does everything have to involve money in the world? All of these things I are things I am always wondering about. Especially “how do certain products/chemicals affect the skin so drastically?” Since skincare has been apart of my everyday routine for many years now I have always wondered why skin is affected to harshly by different chemicals. One day my skin will be fine with niacinamide (skin serum), the next it will give me a negative reaction to it. Those are questions that have answers, but those answers will always be a blur to me.
  3. Something I learned about research from Lunsford and Ruskiewicz is, to always know what keywords to search up when you are trying to find data. It is essential to use the right terminology when researching a topic. For example, as mentioned by Lunsford and Ruskiewicz, you have to be careful when using the words “and, or, not.” If you are not careful enough when researching your topic those small words will give completely different evidences/data on your topic. I also learned that when clicking “advanced search” in Google it will give us more refined and direct results, which is exactly what we need when we are looking for specific data. When we decide to use Google to do research we have to be mindful of what to search for because we can easily mess up with the amount of results Google always gives.
