- One way I practice crap detection is by ignoring things that bring negative energy. For example, when I hear someone speaking bad on someone else I usually decide to ignore for multiple reasons. One because it’s non of my business and two because whatever goes around comes back around and I’m an unproblematic person. I don’t look for problems with others and people don’t look for problems with me.
- A new tool that I learned that I have yet to consider is the audience. At some point in my writing I do think about my audile but never in the perspectives of advocates or opponents. I think this is a good strategy that I can add to my writing and possibly include a rebuttal paragraph.
- A past rule about writing that is no longer helpful to me would be planning out my whole essay before actually writing it. I find this to be helpful sometimes or on rare occasions. However, I would much rather free write and organize my writing after I have something written down on my paper.
- An unpopular opinion that I support is abortion. I believe that women have the right to decide what they want to do with their own body and the opinions of others shouldn’t matter. A lot of the times women can’t bring a child into this world because they can’t support them. Reasons as to why they can’t support a child would be because they’re not financially stable, they got disowned by their family, abusive situations etc. Another unfortunate situation would be rape. If a young girl gets raped and ends up pregnant she shouldn’t be forced to keep that baby. Women should be able to make their own decisions when it comes to bringing a child into this world.

Thanks, Crisleydi. Yes, I’m going to ask you all to consciously consider your audience for your research-based argument as it develops– great that you’re keeping this in mind.
I definitely agree that planning out an essay before actually writing it is not very helpful. I usually find it more stressful to do so just because it is adding more work for me to get my final product. I usually free write my ideas in bullet points that way I remember what to include in my essay instead of writing an outline or something similar.
