ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

scene from your literacy narrative Eric Noah

At the age of 13, I found my identity and now is the time for me to become the member of the Jewish community I always wanted to be. I started to participate and lead weekly prayers , volunteer at fundraisers and continued to assist with community initiatives . Over time I truly felt that I belonged and was a part of the community.

Another way I truly found my identity is through the gift I got from my grandparents for my Bar Mitzvah. When I opened the small box, I saw a bright gold chain with the Star Of David attached. At that moment my grandma told me that it wasn’t just a necklace, “it symbolizes you as a Jew and where you come from”. Up until today I wear my Star Of David every single day. The Star Of David is also known as Magen David in the Jewish language, which means God as the protector (shield) of David. While I continue to serve God through my daily routine, I feel certain protection when I am wearing my necklace.
