ENG 2100: Writing 1 with Jay Thompson

week 6 Responses Eric Noah

Ethos – “At the age of 13, I found my identity, and now is the time for me to become the member of the Jewish community I always wanted to be. I started to participate and lead weekly prayers, volunteer at fundraisers, and continued to assist with community initiatives. Over time I truly felt that I belonged and was a part of the community. “

pathos -“Although I was about to start the next chapter of my life, I was upset that I wasn’t continuing with any of my friends.”

logos – “I learned that vast numbers of Jews attend Baruch.”

2. Suits episode one season 1 – During the first episode suits Mike who is the lead character is known for his talents of reading, memorizing information, and test-taking. During college, he would dress up as certain students and take their exams for payment. Mike ended up taking an exam for a girl and it happened to be the dean’s daughter. His actions ended up getting him expelled. Mike’s roommate Trevor offered Mike to deliver drugs to a hotel that happened to be hosting a major law firm’s job interviews. Once he arrived with the briefcase of drugs he happened to realize it was a setup and ran away and ended up in the interview room. He walked in acting as one of the people who were waiting to get interviewed and happened to impress the interviewer with all his knowledge and received the job. Although mike never graduated college or even made it to law school he learned all the knowledge and more to be a qualified lawyer.

3. I realized while writing that I had to go into deep descriptions and details on my topic. I started by introducing the main charchter. continued to speak in detail about the main events in the first episode that include Mike. last I went in the main even the climax of the episode. since this was my first shot at analyzing I enjoyed the fact that I was able to speak about m,y favorite tv show.

  1. Thanks for this summary and analysis, Eric! Glad analysis feels like something you can grow into. One piece of advice I hope helps future analysis for you: feel free to write about why you love the text; just be ready to explain what choices (in this case, by the actors, director, editor, writers) etc created that effect for you. An analysis can say, “This episode was thrilling.” It should just go on to say why: “The way the camera closely follows Mike down the hallway makes the viewer feel like he’s being pursued; the actor’s way of checking over his shoulder reveals that he’s intensely nervous but concealing it.” Etc etc!
