Success

First semester at Baruch went by so quickly. The whole transition from high school to college was so scary to think about at first. I always expected college to be such a different environment compared to high school and a whole lot of work, which it definitely is. In college, you’re fully responsible for everything and you’re pretty much on your own. Although the workload at first was pretty stressful, I think overtime I was able to manage my time and get things done much more efficiently. Besides all the work, I thought first semester was actually a lot of fun and it’s sad to see it ending so fast. I think compared to the first few weeks at college, I’ve learned so much more now.  I already feel so much more independent and grown in the course of only three months! I learned that motivation to do well is extremely important because without ambition you can’t expect to succeed. I just hope to keep growing in these next semesters and figure out what career path I’d like to follow.

By attending the enrichment workshop on values and benefits of service, I learned about unfamiliar benefits to helping others. Not only is volunteering a nice way to help and give back to others, but according to Dr. Stephen Post, providing your service to others is also good for your health! He emphasized love and with other scientists created studies on unlimited love. He is convinced that people who give are much happier than others and also live longer. Studies and surveys show that volunteering helps people feel stronger and healthier. Researchers have actually conducted a study where they interviewed 12 year olds and about 100 of them said they wanted to help humanity. The researchers then went on and followed the kids who said they want to help the world and studies showed they had lower levels of heart disease, diabetes, and asthma. Most of these kids have lived up to their late 90s.  I was surprised that there are real surveys to prove these claims and overall I think the enrichment workshop motivated me to volunteer whenever I can.

Blog Post #2 !

My group and I decided to create our New York Times front page on music festivals. Music festivals are a great place to discover great new music and to just have a good time. Although music festivals are a great way to have fun, there have been a lot of news worthy things happening in some of these festivals. The music festival, Ezoo, for example, had two unfortunate deaths due to drug abuse. We basically tried to include some of the most news worthy headlines about music festivals onto our front page. We were also aware about the recent concert held at Baruch, where famous singer, Jojo, performed a few of her hits. We wrote about that for our article that related to Baruch. The concert highlights one of many fun events that Baruch has had for its students. My individual role for this project was to find a few interesting articles from around the world that related to our topic and summarize them.

Blog Post One !

Hey guys! My name is Niloy. I was born in the United States but both of my parents are from Bangladesh. I live in Queens, New York. I would describe myself as someone who is very optimistic and tries to make the best out of any situation. I truly believe and live by the saying that “everything happens for a reason.” Although I may come across as a tad bit quiet and shy, I am really a friendly person! I’ve always taken school very seriously and I’ve always been motivated to do my absolute best. I’m currently undecided on what I want to major in but I’m hoping Baruch can help me find something that I’m not only good at but something that I also enjoy. Whatever it is, my number one goal in life has always been to be successful. Not only for me, but also to repay my parents for all that they have done for me.  Family and friends mean everything to me and I could not have asked for better people to be in my life. So I created a musical playlist that is mostly filled with songs that I believe either relates to me or ones that motivate and inspire me. I’m a fan of most types of music but I particularly enjoy listening to pop and R&B songs. Most of the songs in my play list are motivational, upbeat, feel-good songs that never get old to me no matter how many times I’ve listened to them.
