BLOG POST 2 (LISA HUANG)

For the NY times project, our group decided to do sports. We decided to do sports because sports are something that almost everyone watches. It’s a great way for people to relate with each other and show their pride. We included some of the most popular sports: soccer, basketball, and tennis. And even if you don’t play sorts yourself, it’s very exciting and intense watching the best teams play each other. People from all over the world who don’t even know each other can get along if they share the same passion and devotion to a sports team. This reminds us that we should be open-minded to new things and new people. We sometimes think we might not like something, but if you find one thing positive about that thing or person, you might just hit it off.

BLOG POST #2

Hi, my name is Sangmi Cho.

My group’s topic for this NY Times project was “Foods around Baruch.” Basically, we researched certain food joints around Baruch Campus and found articles/reviews on those places. We chose this topic because it relates to every Baruch student and can assist in their guidance throughout their campus life. From Chinese food to Korean food to middle eastern food to Mexican food- the different kinds of food in our campus are so diverse that reading reviews and recommendations would have helped me quite a lot. Hope this blog can help many students’ daily Baruch Campus lives!

I am Sam Jin and I was in group 3. Our group did our NY Times front page on the many hamburgers of Manhattan. We posted various synopses of different NY Times articles on 5 different burger joints around the city, and split the posts 2 each. We did burgers because burgers are great. They taste good, and can vary so much from place to place. Each restaurant has a different approach to how they cook and present their burgers, from the meat used to the very atmosphere and experience of the restaurant. We showed the different rivalries between some restaurants and put together our NY Times front page: Hamburger Heaven.

My group and I decided to do our New York Times Project on music festivals. We decided to do our blog on music festivals because it is an event where we all can have fun and relax.  We did our articles on Tomorrow world, Lebanese music festivals, daisy carnival, edm, and the concert that was held at Baruch with the artist, Jojo. There have been a lot of news worthy things in these music festivals. Most of these articles reflect our first semester at Baruch because most of these music festivals are good ways for just to relax and remove our self from the outside world. My individual role for this project was to organize the group as leader, find to the bearcat article, and create the blog.

Our group chose to do our N.Y Times project on the topic of sports.  We all love to play or watch sports. Sports, in general, is really fun and entertaining.  Personally, I like to play basketball, football, and baseball. There are a variety of sports to play, so you can never get bored. That’s the reason why our group picked this topic, even though we first wanted to do the project on economy. Our group believed that  news on sports is important and interesting at the same time. Getting updates about what is going on in each sport is really vital and that is what our group chose to do for the project. In Baruch, everyone has athletic talent and the sports teams are really competitive. In one of our N.Y. Times articles, we talked about how the women’s soccer team is undefeated. Thus, we can all enjoy, relax, and have a great time whenever we play or watch sports.

Hi! This is Vincent Wang, and I’m in group 1. My group decided to change the theme from economy to sports because sports is a lot more entertaining. Everyone has their own favorite sport whether it be tennis, or basketball or soccer. We decided to used those sports because they relatively the newest information on sports in NYT and we know they are very popular. Also, the basketball tryouts just took place like two days ago. Also, in the bearcat post we talked about how Baruch is undefeated in soccer. Baruch has a lot of students with a lot of athletic talent. Everyone loves sports.

Our group made the New York Times “front page” about music festivals. We chose music festivals as our topic because we first wanted to do about raves and electronic festivals but that was too narrow. So we decided to make our topic more vague. Out group selected articles events from Tommorow world, Electric Zoo, EDC, and the concert that was held at Baruch with the famous artist, Jojo. These articles concerns our life during the first semester at Baruch because we are starting to move forward in our life and we should not forget to have fun as well. These music festivals are a great way for students like us to, relieve our stress, forget about exams and grades, and just have fun in general.

Blog Post #2 !

https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/teampretty/

My group and I decided to create our New York Times front page on music festivals. Music festivals are a great place to discover great new music and to just have a good time. Although music festivals are a great way to have fun, there have been a lot of news worthy things happening in some of these festivals. The music festival, Ezoo, for example, had two unfortunate deaths due to drug abuse. We basically tried to include some of the most news worthy headlines about music festivals onto our front page. We were also aware about the recent concert held at Baruch, where famous singer, Jojo, performed a few of her hits. We wrote about that for our article that related to Baruch. The concert highlights one of many fun events that Baruch has had for its students. My individual role for this project was to find a few interesting articles from around the world that related to our topic and summarize them.

Basically for the New York Times ‘Front Page’ assignment, my group and I chose sports. We all seem to enjoy both playing and watching sports. It’s great entertainment and a way to kind of keep your mind off of things. It brings excitement. I think sports and being active in general is important during your first semester at Baruch College. You want to try to be active in clubs or sports to get to know people and you might even get tot know yourself a bit better. Building relationships is important so don’t be shy. Put yourself out there! I actually haven’t even looked into joining a team or club but i would love to. Looks like a lot of fun and I’m pretty sure none of us want our four years to be miserable/boring at Baruch.

The theme that our group chose together was the food around the campus. The title was “Feast on This!” and we chose this theme because it was very important and a diverse topic that wasnt touched upon. In the group project, I was the person who designed the website and collaborated with each individual to bring everything together from the pictures to the posts. Finally, I understood that news literacy can vary in range of topics and also be important on different levels whether its locally, on a state level, or nationally.
