Professor Email

Dear Professor Rowland,

I am in your Tuesday and Thursday 11:00am english class.  I received a grade of a B+ in your class, which came to me as a shock.  I reviewed your syllabus and grading policies and after looking back at all of my grades throughout the semester, I believe I should have been given an A.  In addition, I have always attended your class and was an active participator.  Please take the time to reconsider and recalculate my grade.

Best regards,

Sam Aidan Dougherty-Messing

Dear Professor Cumberbatch,

I’m a student in your English 2100 Tues/Thurs class and I was unable to attend your midterm on October 24th because of illness. I had the flu and I was bedridden all week because of it. I hope we can reschedule the test or find a way to make up the grade for it. I would also like to request any review sheet you have given to the class prior to the test.

Sincerely,

English 2150 Midterm

Dear Professor Maceira,

I am a student in your English 2150 class that meets on Mondays and Wednesdays. I am emailing you to inform you that due to a stomach virus I was not able to show up and take the midterm exam on October 16. Would it be possible for me to take the exam on another day? If not, is it possible for me to do another assignment to replace the grade of the midterm? I humbly await your reply and I thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Dear Professor,
Due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to attend class all of last week. I came down with a terrible case of bronchitis and spent two weeks in a hospital. Because I missed so many of the assignments I wanted to ask if I could spend this week completing them so that I could give them in and get the credit for them, since I couldn’t do anything about my terrible infection. I do not want to go down a grade because of something I could not control, and I will make sure the assignments are the best that they can be.

Best Regards,
Kseniya Us

Reflection

For our NY Times project, my partners and I decided the focus of our project would be on science. We decided to use science because it is a relevant part of our daily lives and is the key to the future as well. The article I selected which was on the meteor that came down in Russia presented a opportunity of scientific discovery and learning. My individual role included searching for an article that fit within the theme and creating the best article summary I could to describe the article and how it connected to science. Overall, I think we did a good job as a group to find scientific articles to bring to light the many things going on in our world, and I also learned a lot from my partner’s articles as well.

NY Times Reflection (Blog 2)

The theme that our group chose for the NY Times  project was “events in New York” as Freshman at Baruch we felt that this theme connected and resonated with us very much. The idea for the theme was brainstormed between myself and my group leader, though ultimately the group leader made the decision. The articles that we chose connected to our theme because they all described an event occurring in New York or relevant to New York. Which as students of Baruch is very important because our campus is literally in the heart of New York City.  My article in particular described a musical event, showcasing that though we are in a business school, because our campus is in New York we still have the chance to experience the arts. My individual role in this project was to contribute one New York Times article and highlight one Baruch event in the “Bearcat” section. Though I had to contribute a little bit more than the other members I felt that in general our group leader did a good job of distributing the workload evenly. Overall I would say this project was beneficial for my “news literacy” because it pushed me to read and connect several articles to a specific theme. Increasing my ability to read selectively and to connect more with the news that goes on around me.

Dear Professor Williams,
I am in your Math 2300 class, meeting Mondays and Thursday from 9:00am to 10:15am. This email is regarding the B- I received in this class. I believe I should have received an A. I always came to class on time and prepared. Also I completed every assignment and took every test to the best of my ability. I hope you will reconsider my grade.

New York Times Reflection (blog 2)

In my group we picked the theme “diversity” for our New York Times front page. We picked this theme because it is something important to everyone in our group. We live in one of the most diverse cities in the world and think it is important to embrace that. Baruch is also a very diverse school with people from all over the world. The articles I did were about the fight for diversity in an Alabama College sororities and the belief that diversity is important in a company called Accenture Ltd. This experience influenced my understanding of “news literacy” as very important. The news is a good way to spread the word about an important topic. The article about the Alabama College will hopefully call attention to the lack of diversity in sororities all over America. I believe the news is the most effective way to make a change in something. As a result of this project I will pay more attention to important news stories around the world.

Dear Professor Kant,

I am currently in your Monday/Tuesday 9:00am-11:00am classes. Let me premise my email by saying that I enjoyed your class immensely and I look forward to taking your AC2202 class in the future. I am emailing you regarding my B- grade I received in your class. After carefully reading your syllabus and reviewing my grades I deduced that my grade in your class should be an A-. I was punctual, respectful, and participatory. I hope that you understand my concern. Thank You.

NY Times Reflection Blog(Blog 2)

New York Times Article
Theme:New York
Our group selected New York as our theme. It was a good theme since it encompassed a variety of articles to choose from. Also, our theme applied to everyone in our class because we all go to school in New York. The group leader came up with the idea, and everyone else completed an article summary. Although, my individual article was actually based on New Jersey it held ties to New York politics and affairs. It was a New York Times contributor writing about the progress made in New Jersey. My individual role was to scout an article that applied to the overall group theme and write about it. I, like all of my group members worked independently to achieve a greater, more complete front page. In all, we completed, and presented the project thoroughly and achieved our point. This experience enhanced my understanding of news literature. This experience rekindled a belief that news literature can be impactful in a positive way. News literature is usually about horrible happenings or mundane matters. But in this occurrence the news is cheerful and important.. This article could create momentum, and it could inspire other people to go and try to achieve their goals. In all, this experience started out as something to get done, but it evolved to something to learn. It was a good exercise, and I understand why the school demands freshman to complete it every year.
