Lyrics From Melody

Everything is always being revised, and life is a consistent revision in of itself. The older I physically become, the more my taste changes and develops. Personally I feel music, aside from being extremely addictive, allows emotions to surface and allows a person to experiment through exposure to different genres, as I have throughout the years.
The songs compiled on the following playlist all have a story together and in of themselves. Many have soothed and energized car rides through the day and night towards concerts, beaches, and adventures of all kinds, whereas others have been company to a quiet night in with loved ones.

Regardless whether any of the songs were played at a music festival one-hundred miles away where everyone danced and moshed together in union or over the radio at my friend’s cafe while they told me about meeting Louis C.K., each has brought a smile and happiness into my life. Each makes me happy at the present time, and some in the past, but the stories are for me to know since they are my lyrics from melodies. Feel free to find your own.

Arsenal are my favorite soccer team and they have been since I was a little kid because  they are my dad’s favorite team. When I was young they were the always the best  team in England, they haven’t been nearly as good in the past nine or so years but I will always stay loyal and never change teams.

The Rolling Stones are one of my favorite bands and they have been since my older sister became obsessed with them when I was about 10 years old.  My favorite album is Exile on Main Street  because it is their most diverse and fun album.

I love all types of dogs but French Bulldogs are my favorite! I have a French Bulldog named Jazzy, who is three years old.

My favorite TV show is Mad Men because it takes place during a very interesting decade the 1960’s. The show revolves around advertising executives and during this time consumerism had a large impact on our culture and still does today.

My favorite food is Thai food because I love the flavors of the fresh ingredients they commonly use in their cooking, such as limes, chili peppers, and lemongrass. I also work at a Thai restaurant called Lovely Day.

I follow both NFL and College Football but for whatever reason I have always liked College Football more. On Saturdays when am ever I am not working I try to watch as many games as possible.

Kendrick Lamar is one of my favorite rappers of all time, his music is really different from other rap artists and I think in the future more rappers will try and sound like him.

Even though I don’t really play Xbox anymore, it had a large impact on my life when I was in Middle School and High School I would play countless hours of GTA and Fifa.

My favorite living creature is my dog Mika. He’s a Great Dane and when he stands up he’s taller than me. Since I was very young Scooby-Doo was my favorite cartoon, and I dreamed of having my own Scooby to go on adventures with. My dream came true because although my dog looks intimidating, he’s scared of everything and always hides under me when he’s afraid.

I love nature and I’m always trying to stay close to it. Living in the city, it’s always the best when I get to get away from paved streets and explore the woods. I really enjoy climbing trees but I always have a hard time coming down. The only thing I hate about nature are the creepy crawlers, especially when they try to land on me. Not cool.

My family is VERY important to me. My parents are the only family I have because every one else is back in Chile. I love them so much even though they have too much fun embarrassing me. We always make time during our busy schedules to discuss our day or talk about how we’re doing. My parents are just really cool.

My favorite pass time is playing music. I’ve always tried to learn as many instruments as possible because I think that it’s so beautiful how you can make sweet music from them. I can play guitar, bass, the bagpipes, clarinet, and trombone. My favorite is trombone! It’s such a bizarre looking instrument but the sounds that thing can make are sweeeeet.

Sons of Anarchy is currently my favorite t.v. series. It has all the things I like: motorcycles, bearded men, tattoos, explosions, and bearded men. My favorite character was killed off though, so I haven’t been keeping up with it. Hopefully I’ll get a motorcycle license soon so I can pretend I’m cool like these guys.

My favorite band is Black Flag. They can be described as really angry punk. Their songs are fast, fun and always seem to show exactly how I’m feeling. I went to their show September 19, and I almost cried from joy/excitement. I was a total fan girl! Their songs always seem to cheer me up and make me want to dance.

My friends are the best. They’re always there for me and they usually know how to cheer me up. Even though we don’t see each other as often as we used to, we all know in our hearts that we would do anything for each other.  They’ve helped me sort out some “tough” life problems! “all for one, and one for all”

I’ve always enjoyed reading books. I adore reading books, but only when I get to choose them and I don’t have to write an essay after. I wish I had more time for my books but school has taken over all my free time for reading. Books are a way of escaping my world and be inside someone else’s world, whether I might end up in Middle Earth or inside Holden Caulfield’s head, it’s always a different adventure.

Vincent Grieco: Music Playlist

The genres of music I like to listen are hip-hop and rap. The first rap artist whoi remember listening too religiously was Eminem. To me he was the epitome of rap and had very good music. It wasn’t only just the beats and flow to his songs but the lyrics which truly captivated my attention. Fans of his work would agree that his best work was his early songs which included some of his darker more explicit tracks. His songs were not only a form of expression but it was a story that he would tell which a little piece of his life was. Being given this insight into his own personal struggles and life made me feel close to him as artists who only made me appreciate his music that much more.

Growing up in New York City has always left me a soft spot for hip-hop. The type of songs which I like is those that tell a story of early struggles and later success. I am a very ambitious person so hearing these lyrics about artists who started from nothing and gradually ascended to super stardom gives me inspiration for future endeavors. Some of the hip-hop artists that I enjoy listening to are Drake, Big Sean, and Kayne West. These artists are also masters of word play and rhyming, so good in fact sometimes I see myself replaying verses and marveling at their puns. The most recent album I have been listening to is Drake’s “Nothing was the Same”, I enjoy this album due to that fact that these songs pay tribute to his early beginning and struggles. Please enjoy the included playlist 🙂 http://grooveshark.com/#!/playlist/Freshman+Orientation+Playlist/90788324

Post 1 – 8 Things About Christina

1. Corgis

I love Pembroke Welsh Corgis and I have one named Lulu. To me, corgis are the most interesting breed of dogs with their satellite-like  ears, stumpy legs, stumpy tail,  and bunny feet. Corgis remind me that even if you can’t match anyone else in size, you can be as strong as you want to be.

2. My Sister

My sister is my best friend and the person I spend the most time with. While she’s 7 years younger than me, we share the same likes and dislikes. She inspires me to work harder and become a better role model.

3. Humor

I believe it’s important to always have something funny in your life. Whether it’s a picture of a corgi poking a hole in bread or a joke, humor is what gets me through the day.

4. Music

Music is what gets me through the day. I listen to music while working, commuting, or hanging out with friends. It helps me unwind and add excitement to my daily routine. I love music that tells stories, builds up, and has an ending.

5. Cooking

Cooking is one of my hobbies. I believe that food brings people together. Through cooking and food, you teach people about your culture or other cultures, create memories, and connect with people.

6. The Newsroom

The Newsroom is my favorite show, because it covers the issues I’m interested in: politics, policies, media, current events, and how people react. The show focuses on the behind the scenes aspect of a news show that’s main goal is to report on what’s important and often purposefully ignored by other media outlets.

7. Internet

I believe that the internet is essential to the people of our generation. The internet offers a wide range of information and has taught me a lot of things; it has allowed me to dream and become creative.

8. Friends

My friends come in all shapes, sizes, shades, and personalities. They’ve become a very important part of my life and have helped me go through thick and thin. They’re people I can trust and connect with, no matter how far we are apart.

8 Things About Sherry

Humpback Whales are my favorite animal. Even though they look very big and scary, humpback whales are actually really friendly animals. They are very resilient and their song is so beautiful. Here is an amazing story about a whale being rescued and how it thanked the people who rescued it :  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6pKX3whms8

Hiking is not just a physical activity it is also a great way to get in touch with nature. Being in the city deprives us of the beauty nature provides. I love hiking because there is always a sense of excitement of not knowing what to expect. And usually after a long trip hiking, you get rewarded with beautiful scenery.

Even though I cannot draw for my life, I really enjoy designing clothings. But instead of drawing them I would actually make them myself. A lot of the clothing I wear is actually designed and made by me and my mom. Currently we are in the process of designing our line of baby clothes, which we hope to be out on the markets around summer 2014.

How I Met Your Mother is the funniest show ever. If you never watched it, your missing out. Its so hilarious and I’m so upset that this season is suppose to be the last season. Man! I can’t wait to see the part when Ted finally meets the mother!

Sustainability is very important to me. Being green is not only a way of life, it is also a way to be morally responsible.  Going green will not only make our resources last longer, it will also benefit our health by keeping pollutant out of the air we breathe.

Yoga and meditation is my way to de-stresss! After a stressful day all I want to do is that. It is super relaxing to spend some time alone and  let the stress of a long day just melt away.

YUM! I LOVEEEE FOOD. But my most favorite food is Mexican food. It must be the cheese. If you add cheese to anything, I would be all over it.

Road Trip Anyone? Maine is the most gorgeous place on earth. I went there in the summer of 2009 and I’ve been dieing to go back. Not only is the scenery just breathe taking, they also have delicious seafood and nautical towns!

Elephants are one of my favorite animals. They always exude a wise, serene and gentle essence. Their strength and social capability is something I admire. The collaboration of all these attributes into one animal, creates an admirability.

Makeup is also something that I admire and respect. The artistry and transformation involved in the makeup industry is something that has always awed me. Whether enhancing beauty, portraying a character, or just expressing an idea, there is always an aspect of transformation in makeup.

Possibilities and fantasies broaden our world so much. I really like the idea of supernatural discoveries waiting to be uncovered. Even if they are never uncovered, having the belief and imagination to broaden my world, is something very important to me.

Being a Vegan is a big part of my life. Besides feeling healthier and more energized, it also greatly attributes to my moral standing.

Friends and family are also a very important part of my life. My friends and family are the people I trust, love and respect. If I did not have them, I would not have been able to become the person I am today.

Like many from my generation, technology has also been a key element in the shaping of my life. Growing up with technology as a source of information, social connections and amusement, technology has become something I depend upon daily.

Having been born and raised in New York City, it has shaped who I am. The exposure to diversity in people, foods, ideas, and lifestyles has molded my own ideas and perceptions of life.

John Diakogeorgios in 8 Pictures

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then my slideshow should be worth eight thousand words. The series of pictures is the perfect summation of my life and it is safe to say that they speak to exactly who I am. First off, the most important thing in life is family. My three brothers are the people that have always been there for me in my life. We tend to argue a lot but it is safe to say that I am never bored when I’m with them. The same can be said with my friends. The groups of friends in the picture are just some people I have been with since diapers. We spend our summers together in a small town on the North Fork of Long Island called Mattituck. Water sports such as wake boarding, tubing and waterskiing are just some of the ways we spend our time.  When it is not summer, and I am not with my friends, I enjoy traveling.  My favorite place to travel to is the Caribbean Islands. Just some of the islands that I have been to are St. Lucia as seen in the picture, St. Thomas, Barbados, Aruba, Turks and Caicos and many more. Education is one of the most important things in anyone’s life.  Studying hard and pursuing a great career would be the best way to live comfortably and continue doing what I enjoy doing.  Lastly, culture is a very big part of my life. Whether I am spending time with my family on holidays or attending church on Sunday mornings there’s always something to get out of it. With that being said, anyone can learn a lot about who I am by observing my slideshow, whether it be my classmates or my teachers.

My Passion For Music: By Ben-hemir Collado

The first time I heard music that sparked my interest was when I was about twelve years old. It was a summer afternoon and the sun was finally setting. My family and I were coming back from who knows where and my mother decided to play one of her favorite albums, Abraxas by Santana. About five minutes in to the album, a song began that would completely change my idea of music, it was called “Black Magic Woman”. The at first “strange” assortment of rhythmic bongos, sexy guitar rifts, and figurative lyrics  were the perfect mix to inspire me to listen more. By the end of the album, I felt the up most elation. It felt as though the world had given me something I would never lose. Since then, I have felt the need to listen to more and more artists that intrigue my musical taste buds, and it has led me to where I am today.

Nowadays, I listen a variety of genres. From sub genres like indie rock, britpop and surf rock to as far as electronic rock, folk and psychedelic music. It seems as though these genres strike me in ways other genres just can not. But this is not to say I dislike popular genres. In fact, being born and raised in New York City, hip hop occupies a special place in my heart. Now, onto the actual music. The playlist I composed consists of ten songs that I feel have significance to us as adolescents. These songs cover topics like love, friendship, nostalgia and youth. I hope you enjoy it! (this is the playlist link)
