Homework Problem – Andreas Katelas

Dear Ms. Trapani,

After countless efforts, I still find myself struggling with Question 4 of the homework assignment. I have looked through the chapter in the textbook and cant manage to find a solution. Do you have any suggestions or tips on how to come about this problem? Thank you for your time.

Missed Midterm

Dear Professor Davis,

I sincerely apologize for not attending the midterm which was held last Wednesday.  Due to my health problems, I have been in and out of the hospital within the last week.  After being properly prescribed I am feeling much better than last week.  I would greatly appreciate if I would be able to take the midterm whenever you allow me to take it.  Thank you and I apologize again for any inconvenience.  Have a nice day.

Difficulty Figuring out HW

Dear Professor Trapani,

I am currently in the process of doing the homework assignment but I am a little confused on how to solve one of the problems. Is there any way you can guide me in the right direction on figuring this problem out? If so, I would kindly appreciate it.

Thanks,

Nicholas Nanas

Denis Grilev Missed Midterm Due to illness

Dear Professor Trapaini

I regret to inform that I was not able to attend class on October 31, 2013 and take the midterm due to an illness. I was very sick with the flu and had a very high fever and so I was not able to attend and take the exam. I have a doctors note and I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me make up the exam or give me some other sort of credit for it.

Jennifer Rubinshteyn – A Small Look Into Me

Hey guys! Here are some pictures that will hopefully give you a taste of who I am and the things that i’m into !

Jennifer Rubinshteyn 2

This up here is my dorm room. I’m from Brooklyn so i’m fairly close to Baruch, but I really wanted to start to live somewhat on my own and of course, away from home as most kids do. I wouldn’t change my decision for the world. There are some trippy posters, a backlight, hello kitty toys / memorabilia everywhere, an animal print blanket, a keep calm and rave on poster, a tie dye tapestry with fractals, a lotus flower, and buddha in the center, and my beautiful dancer hoop hanging above it (i’m learning the art of hoop dancing).

Here is my best friend Nicole. She lives in New Jersey but we still manage to see one another at LEAST once a month and do everything together from job applications, to shopping, to studying, to raving, etc. She is an inspiration to me in many ways and will continue to inspire me until the day we part.

Here is my other best friend and boyfriend Christian. I will say that we are the absolute best at making the most horrid faces you will ever see. I’ve chosen to showcase this (extremely partially/mildly) in some pictures. In short for now, I love him more than I love myself. I don’t want to go into my feelings here but if you guys are interested in hearing my sappy thoughts than feel free to ask me I looove talking about him.

Here are some photos of me at events (or raves if you wish). The first is of me and my friend Michael Wolf who I met through video chat and have been friends with ever since. The second is simply me showing off my arms of bracelets. In both pictures you can see that I’m wearing plastic beaded jewelry. These pieces are made by ravers and traded. They’re called “kandi”. You can make simple single bracelets and other pieces or more elaborate 3 dimensional things like the ones on my arms in the picture of me. They represent something called PLUR. An acronym standing for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. Ravers make them and wear them to events and give them away to their friends and strangers that they meet for many reasons. They represent a piece of your time and creativity that is then passed on to others. You can also see that in both pictures i’m wearing “weird” costumes. I’m very into costuming, cosplay, and other eccentric outfits.

I own a small individual company entitled ElectriCITY Gogo Wear and Costume Service. It started off with me simply making Gogo dancer outfits with bras, hotpants, underwear, skirts, boot covers, and other crazy pieces and was called ElectriCITY Bras. Now I am branching out into costumes as a whole and include makeup, hair, and other costume pieces in my services. I am at Baruch for this reason. It is my goal to take this business and make it into a touring costuming company that Costumes and does hair & makeup for everything from gogo dancers to circus acts to burlesque. I want to own and make this company successful. The first picture is of my boyfriend and I behind my vendors table at a rave that I sold my bras at recently. The second is a picture of one of the bra/headband sets i’ve made. (EDC stands for Electric Daisy Carnival – a huge electronic dance music festival)

Makeup

Above is a sample of some of the makeup looks that i’ve done.

Last, but most DEFINITELY not least, my friends. Here are some pictures of my friends and I. I love them with all of my heart and just from these few pictures you can get a taste of how absolutely insane we all are. Eccentric is not even the word, simply insane. We have the most absolutely crazy stories and always adventure together doing the dumbest and wildest things. Aside from the crazyness, they are the most loving and accepting group of people I know. What I adore about them most is how accepting they are of everyone around them and how fantastic their vibes are. They can make anyone into their friend and that is phenomenal. We’re just a family of what some would call “new age hippies”.

(P.S.: Sorry this is so late. I did some extra work on it.)

These pictures all depict a small part of who I feel I am today. I was born in Guyana, and I came to this country before I turned two years old. The image of determination embodies a trait I believe I have always had since I was little. Even if something may not seem attainable, I know through hard work and dedication, the outcome may be surprising. This also goes hand in hand with my goal of becoming a lawyer one day. I was an active member of Model UN throughout high school, a club which has given me the privilege of traveling to many different universities, to compete in debates about world issues. This club helped me realize that law is the career path that I want to pursue. Danielle Steel and Nicholas Sparks are two of my favorite authors, who’s books I have been reading for years.  Family is one of the most important elements of my life. For me, this doesn’t only consist of my parents and siblings, but also my cousins, aunts and uncles and my grandma. We all live within ten minutes of each other, and we have grown up as one close knit family.  My friends are another very important part of my life. During my senior year, we all took part in a cultural dance, which was a little nerve racking for me. However, it proved to be a great time and with months of practice, it was a success.  The flute was something that has been part of my life for almost ten years now, which I began playing in elementary school, and continued to play throughout my high school years. Tennis is a sport that I began playing at the age of ten. I had never picked up a tennis racket prior to that, and without even realizing, I developed a love for the sport. Joining the varsity team was one of the best decisions I made during my senior year.  Some things I enjoy doing in my free time are going to the city with friends or cousins, doing pilates, playing tennis, going shopping or hanging out at the beach.  These images embody pieces of who I am today, and the things that are most important and enjoyable to me.

So, I started to make a video and I had a script in its second draft before I realized it was Sunday… oops. Anyway, to be completely honest, I’m not big into music. I listen to it on my way to the subway and at the gym but I don’t have a favorite band. That being said,  movies are a big part of my life, so I’ve chosen movie things to put in instead of radio songs (save for a few choice ones).  So here are the explanations:

“Remember the Name”- This song motivates me in everything I do. I don’t give up, ever, and I know that I’ll be big one day. Like, it’s not a question. I will. I also know that it’ll take a lot of hard work. This song speaks to me in that way and gives me spirit and motivation. Plus, the violin intro is great.

Stars- Les Miserables is my second favorite musical, Javert is my favorite character, and Russell Crowe is my favorite actor. Naturally, this is here. This song represents the character of Javert and I’ve always sympathized with him the most because we’re similar. I believe that one must work hard and do good things in life. There is right and wrong and I don’t think that there are gray areas there.

Music of the Night- I listen to this song when I’m stressed, upset, or just falling asleep. I have a music box that plays it. It’s very gentle and Phantom is my favorite musical of all time, and what inspired me to want to be in entertainment.

I’ll Make a Man Out of You- Mulan was the only Disney princess I ever liked, and this song also motivates me to work hard. It was the theme of my epee squad when I first entered the fencing team freshman year, and it inspires me to be tough and do what I have to do.

Soul Bossa Nova- The first movie I saw in theatres was the original Austin Powers, which is one of the few things my dad and I have in common, which is why it’s here. I don’t talk to him much, but whenever Austin Powers is on TV, we order a pizza and watch it together.

American Pie- It’s just a beautiful song. It makes me value life and what I have in life, and reminds me that time moves fast so I can’t waste a single moment with negative feelings.

Hedwig’s Theme- Harry Potter has a very special place in my heart, like it does for billions of others. Hearing this gives me both comfort inside and nostalgia for my childhood, but no matter what I always feel seven again when I listen to it.

White Christmas- It reminds me of home. As soon as it hits December 1st, this movie gets played in my house 24/7 courtesy of my mother. I am not exaggerating when I say I have memorized every single second of the two hours of this movie. It’s grown incredibly annoying. However, it reminds me of my mommy and I love her, and this movie makes her happy. She isn’t happy all too often, so seeing her smiling and relaxed is one of the best things to lift my mood.

L-O-V-E- This is in every single RomCom from the 90s. Every. Single. One. And my family inexplicably loves RomComs. One of my fondest memories was when I was eight watching “The Parent Trap” remake starring Lindsay Lohan and waltzing to it with my big sister while my mom video taped it. So that’s why it’s here.

In My Life- Even though I couldn’t find the link, I had to include this song. My sister will be walking down the aisle to it in two weeks. One of my earliest memories was my sister and I talking about future weddings and she said she was going to marry a Backstreet Boy, and she would walk down the aisle to this. Years later, that’s what she’s doing- I mean, he’s no Backstreet Boy, but he’ll have to do. I love my sister more than anything. She is my best friend in the world and I’m happy for her but sad at the same time. I cry every time I hear this song and it will always be special to me.
