Blog Post #3:

Visiting the Mishkin Art Gallery was a really unique experience. I’m not the most up-to-date art connoisseur, but I do enjoy viewing pieces of art from time to time. Theresa Bernstein’s art was interesting to say the least. It wasn’t my type of art per say, but I did enjoy the experience of traveling through the art gallery with our highly educated tour guide. The visit to the gallery made me realize that our lives are more than just going to school for a business degree. And that there is always time for art. Hell, Bernstein had over 100 years of proving just that!

Mishkin Art Gallery

The Mishkin Art Gallery had had an amazing exhibit by Theresa Bernstein. She had a huge verity of different styles of art. It was interesting learning about her life and her personality which she illustrated in many of her paintings. Also learning all the different type of art and how it could be portrayed in many ways was eye opening. For example the two pictures that had a musical rhythm, one showed it off more because of the bright  colors and scenery where the other was more dark and had a light in the opened door . I found it interesting everything you can get out of or in other words assume in a single picture. As they say a picture is worth a thousand words.

I think the mishkin gallery tour was interesting even for someone like me,who is not usually interested in art. What we did in the tour was listen to an experienced guide explain various pieces of art.The guide was very passionate about the artwork and frequently interjected his own opinions in it,which in turn made it very easy to listen to him. A regrettable aspect of the tour though is that it was completely focused on one artist,It would have been nice to hear about other artist and their life experiences. My favorite part of the tour was when the guide pointed out that there was speculation if the animal in the painting was a cat or a pirate, not only was it funny considering the question but it was even funnier seeing the reactions on my fellow classmate’s face.I won’t say I absolutely loved the tour because art doesn’t seem to appeal to me,but I did enjoy listening to the passions that fueled the particular artist and what they went through during that time.

Mishkin Gallery Responce

When we were told that we were going to an art gallery, I wasn’t expecting it to be so close. The Mishkin Gallery was a nice, quiet gallery that was show casing the artist Theresa Bernstein. Learning about this artist was a great experience. I always loved art and learning the background of artist, so this experience was a perfect.  Having an expert, or even someone who just knows a great deal about an artist or a certain type of style of art tour you through an exhibit is a lot different than going through it on your own. It was extremely informative. I thought that it helped that the tour guide was trying to engage us. I know a lot of people thought this was a waste of time or an hour too long, but I think it made me more interesting in doing something similar to this again.

Mishkin Gallery Reactions (Blog Post #3)

The Mishkin Gallery was a surprising find at Baruch. I never expected a business college to have a small exhibit like that. Personally, I did not know anything about the artist but there was a good range of paintings. Some looked more simple and tried to convey lots of details with utensils like pastels but others were painted and complex. Instead of a message that seemed very hard to comprehend, many of the paintings seemed to be clear cut in their symbolism and what was happening. Personally, the most interesting thing I heard yesterday was that the artist would sell her painting to someone every time they met. Overall, it was very informative and the facts on the author, including her over one hundred year life span was interesting. The secret to her long life is wondrous and I’m curious to how she could still paint at an age of over 100. Her style seemed to not be that consistent but I guess it was to change with the times. There seems to be a big significance on what frame is being used for what picture, which I never knew. I personally enjoyed the paintings with landscapes more, and the ones with lots of detailed people seemed less appealing. It’s probably because they somehow had a nice visual beauty and complexity while instilling a sense of large space and depth. The paintings have inspired me to try to look at more art and attempt to draw stuff. I also might be interested in taking art as one of the required courses.

NYT Reflection

When I decided to start working on my project the first thing i had to do was to find two articles that fell under the topic of politics. Since politics is a rather broad topic it wasn’t too hard to find two articles that both were about politics and about something I found interesting.  The two articles I chose were about the Supreme Court reconvening about the death penalty, and one was about the the Democrats about seeing the government turning back on as an opportunity for bipartisanship in the senate. After reading both of the articles I briefly summarized them, and posted them to the appropriate page on Blogs @ Baruch.

NY TIMES PROJECT – Group 2

politics

My groupchose to do politics because of the many topics that can be discussed. Politics is a never-ending issue and as we become mature adults,  its especially time for us to know whats going on in the world around us. Our articles reflect this topic by showing the various sections within politics. Not only this, but politics is always a controversial topic. It’s always a great conversation starter !

NY Times Project- Group 5

In our group, we decided to work on the topic of the Environment and nature and how I relates to us now. Our articles were related to this topic in different ways. For example, we did an article on fracking and how it negatively effects the environment while in another article discussed the UN’s top climate scientist have came to a limit to the level of CO2 humans can live with.

New York Times Technology

My team chose technology because we saw how it influenced a lot of people today, not just general people, but Baruch students as well. It plays major roles in our lives, but positively and negatively and we decided to explore those roles. The articles I chose related to the negative roles of technology, with a little bit of positivity. My article was about people spending too much time on technology that brings them games, so they are then pushed away from more important things in life. I also spoke about how technology is becoming so advanced that its starting to take more and more jobs away from the people who need them.

Reflection NY Times project Team 1

For my New York Times project my group decided to report on Fraternities and Sororities. We chose this topic because they are a important part of college life and have a big influence on how students behave. My articles reflected this by showing the consequences of the fraternities and Sororities massive influence and showing the possible future of their demise through college of reflection.I enjoyed the project because it allowed me to learn about a new topic while also allowing me to gain a insight on my own college experience.
