Shirley Lo
This ten song playlist that I created shows that I try my best to succeed regardless of the problem.
1) “Chances” by Five for Fighting: Everyone’s life depends on chances and some people are luckier than others. I accept my failures and use them to help me become a better person.
2) “It’s My Life” by Tim Myers: I discovered that the only person who can heavily impact my life is me.
3) “Believer” by American Authors: I often find that I do not leave my comfort zone. However, optimism gives me courage to step out of the boundaries I have created because things do get better and there is hope for tomorrow.
4) “Move Along” by All American Rejects: On certain days, I feel stressed and bogged down by obstacles. However, life moves on and I have to focus on tomorrow’s problems.
5) “Hall of Fame” by The Script: Everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed. I feel that there is a purpose to working diligently.
6) “This City” by Patrick Stump: I was raised in New York City and it is my home. On the crowded streets of this city, there is always competition and it pushes me to reach my full potential.
7) “Let’s See How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox Twenty: It’s difficult to give up when I look back at all my achievements and struggles I have overcome to get to where I am today.
8) “Lose Yourself” by Eminem: Sometimes I pass up opportunities and don’t realize that they only happen once in a lifetime. I learned to take advantage of opportunities around me to compensate what I have lost.
9) “Do or Die” by Thirty Seconds to Mars: Life is one long story that is limited to a certain amount of time. Therefore, it is crucial that I live my dreams out loud.
10) “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato: Despite the discouraging encounters I have experienced, I overcome them and move along.

Honestly, I still don’t know who I am exactly yet. It will take me a long time before I can figure that out. Meanwhile, these eight images in this slideshow roughly describe who I am. I like to read novels and listen to country music. I like to spend time to make art crafts with my sister and explore the New York City. My favorite season is obviously related to my favorite Disney movie Frozen. All of these photos are personal  and I use one of my favorite inspirational songs called “Close Your Eyes” by Meghan Trainor. Thank you for watching!

So Hi my names is Sam Chen and I am a freshman of Baruch College. I like listening to all kinds of music ranging from country to rap. I don’t really have a perferance to what i listen to and i just listen to what I deem sounds good. Here are some of my personal favorites and ill explain why they are:

1)I like this song because it’s about hard work and dedication, ideals that i try to live up to. The beat and the lyrics are really good as well and the chorus is my favorite part which is why it made the top 8.
2)This song made the top 8 because i like listening to it when i am down or had a bad day and it cheers me up.
3) This song show that i’m “not afraid” to change for the better and face my obstacles head-on as the intent of the lyrics in the song.

4) This song represents my friendship with my friend who died early in life and whenever i hear this song it reminds me of him and the friendship we had.

5) This song is a kpop song that was extremely catchy and was the gateway drug so to say that lead me to like kpop.

6) This song represents how i feel about everyone i meet along my life, i will never forget them or the influence they had on me no matter how much time goes by.

7) As you notice already, a lot of the songs i chose relate to friendship and this one is to my best friend that was always there for me no matter what happened. I place friendship and family as the utmost importance over anything else.

8) This song is just one of the motivational songs that kept me going since i was young because who doesn’t want to be the very best?

Stuff I listen to

Hi, so I chose to just make a playlist of 10 songs for the first blog post. I listen all kinds of music, but for this playlist, I chose songs that are similar what I generally prefer listening to. Often, I prefer either instrumentals that I find relaxing or songs that I think are catchy or upbeat. I don’t have much interest for rap or rock, but sometimes I’ll listen to them. Anyways, I view myself as a very laid-back person. I like to just go with the flow so to say.

Gary Chan blog post uno

For my first picture, I chose the Recreational Center pool, because I love swimming. At the age of seven, my parents sent me to swimming school. I didn’t really want to go at first, but my mom always joked around with me and said “You’ll thank me in the future when you fall off a boat.” In the end, I went for about seven years and then I stopped. Around two years ago, the Recreational Center pool opened, and I’ve been swimming at least once a week since then. For my second picture I chose a bunch of Mathematics equations. Growing up, Math was my favorite subject, my uncle would teach me all these little shortcuts, and how to do some mental math. In school, when I hate the chances to, I would take all the advanced Math classes. For my third picture, I put a picture of Brooklyn Technical High School. In Brooklyn Tech, we had majors, and I was in the Math Major. I learned a lot of advanced Math, such as graph theory, number theory, combinatorics, calculus, stats, economics, and linear algebra. This really changed the way I see the world today, everything I see is related to Math. For my fourth picture, I have a picture of a desk. I love the desk I have at home, because it has everything I need. It’s also probably the most relaxing place in the whole house, where I can have some silence, so I can read in peace. It’s so comfortable on my chair, that sometimes I fall asleep with my face smacked onto the desk. You’ll always find me there from 12 to 3 everyday, because I’m procrastinating every night. For my fifth picture, I have a picture of a mime, because in the classroom, I’m always quiet, unless I really have to speak. Usually I don’t participate in class, and people think I’m shy. Trust me, if you know me, I can be the loudest person you know outside of the classroom. My friends always tell me to stop talking, but I just speak louder and pretend I didn’t hear them. For my sixth picture, I chose a picture of a clown, because I smile a lot, and I love making people laugh and smile. My friends would always laugh, and tell me that the joke was really bad, but that’s what makes it funny… I remember in fifth grade when I was considered a “good” class clown. I never understood what that meant, maybe because class clowns are usually troublemakers, but I was flattered to be called funny. For my Seventh picture, I have a picture of a buffet to show that I love to eat, and I’ll eat anything. I love trying new stuff, and experimenting with different combinations of sauces, and food. For my last picture I have a picture of Hearthstone, because it’s my favorite game. I got a beta key, and I’ve been playing ever since then.

The first picture in my Powerpoint is of Sawako from Kimi ni Todoke. I think Sawako’s eye bags are a great representation of my own. I always procrastinate, so I stay up late to finish homework. The lack of sleep causes my eye bags to be super dark. My mom even bought me eye cream because she said that I have panda eyes! The second picture in my slideshow is of Erysimum, also known as wallflower. I’m referring to the personified definition of wallflower, rather than the actual plant. It takes a while for me to open up to people. Sometimes, I don’t really know what to say during conversations, so I end up being either quiet or I give short responses. People tend to take it the wrong way and think that I hate them. It’s not that at all; I’m always grateful for people who make the effort to talk to me! The third picture in my slideshow is of rice. My life will never be complete without rice, because I eat it every day! Eating rice gives me the satisfaction of being full. The fourth picture in my slideshow is of a PS3. I started gaming during first grade on my cousin’s Gameboy Color. Shortly after, I bought a Gameboy Advance for myself. Currently, I’m playing Tales of Symphonia HD on my PS3; it is on hold right now, because I’m getting too much work from college. (If any of you have a PS3, tell me, so I can add you on PSN!!) The fifth picture in my slideshow is of a piano. Since kindergarten, my dad bought me electronic keyboards to play. I never received real piano lessons until I was sixteen. I was inspired to officially learn how to play the piano because of Final Fantasy. One of my favorite pieces from the Final Fantasy franchise is To Zanarkand. The sixth picture in my Powerpoint is of BEAST. BEAST is the first boyband that got me hooked to K-Pop. I started to listen to K-Pop in 2008 through a friend’s recommendation. I thought that it was okay, but nothing to get crazy over. However, BEAST was the first boyband to debut with really great songs; I liked every single song from their debut album. Ever since then, I started to listen to K-Pop more. 90% of the music in my library is Korean-related. The seventh picture in my Powerpoint is of a volleyball. Volleyball is probably my favorite sport after badminton. Many people don’t like playing volleyball because it hurts their arms. The pain doesn’t bother me, but I end up with a million busted tiny blood vessels after every game because of my sensitive skin. The last photo in my slideshow is of Tokyo Ghoul. I enjoy reading manga more than English books during my free time. I only recently started to read Tokyo Ghoul; I can’t wait to finish it because I heard many great things about this series!

(freshman seminar) blog post 1

On the cover page of my image slideshow, I used the colors blue and white to represent my two favorite colors. For the first image, I put a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge, because I live in Brooklyn and I really enjoy walking the Brooklyn Bridge on a nice day. For the second image, I used a picture of a bunch of blue pens because I only write with blue pens, and I feel that I write very sloppy with black pens. The third image is the YouTube logo, because I can spend hours watching YouTube videos on the computer all day. For the fourth image, I put a picture of a deck of cards, because I have always like playing card games and it helped me meet new friends in the past. The fifth image is a calculator, because I have always enjoyed learning math and I never got bored of it. For the sixth image, I used a picture of a person driving a car, because I want to learn how to drive a car. In the seventh image, I put a picture of a variety of fruits, to show that I like to eat all types of fruits, and I have never spent a day without eating fruits. And last but not least, for the eighth image, I included a picture of a peanut butter jelly sandwich, because even though they can be boring, I never get bored of eating them. In conclusion, the eight images I put in the image slideshow equally represent the person that I am, not in any particular order.

Okay, so after thinking about which 10 songs I should put that I think best represents me, I have come up with these 10. I don’t have any specific genre that I personally like more than another,  I am the kind of person who likes songs I find has a “catchy” beat and have “meaningful” lyrics and speak out to me. In order, this is why/how each song represents me:

  1. Taylor Swift’s Shake it Off shows how I am the type of person who doesn’t care about what people think about me, I am who I am.
  2. When I have my bad days one of the songs I turn to is this one, it’s upbeat/”happy” toned. When I listen to this song it reminds me that sometimes things will get better in time, I just have to “keep my head up”.
  3. OKAY so I admit, at first I didn’t know what the song was talking about but I just found it very catchy and it just became a song I enjoyed. However, after searching the English translation of the song, I guess it some-what relates to my life. I am someone who likes songs other than those sang in English.
  4. This song is from my favorite K-pop group, I love all their songs because their lyrics speak to me (when I search it in English) and I’m just a sucker for love songs, whether it’s sad, happy, etc.
  5. I love my mom and no matter what fights we get into, small or big I love her to death.
  6. Another love song. I’m only human, I get hurt physically and mentally.
  7. This is another song that shows I am a sensitive person, I cry whenever I am emotionally hurt.
  8. If you haven’t noticed, I love songs about romance/love and this is just another one. I am a romantic person who not only love to listen to songs about love but watch Asian dramas about romance as well, …
  9. Justin Timberlake’s songs are awesome, especially this one, it’s so sweet; if you read what the song is all about, it may touch your hearts as well…that’s if you’re like me, a hopeless romantic. This shows how I’m the type of girl who loves when a guy does something romantic for the person they like/love.
  10. I love GREASE, it’s  my all time favorite movie and this would be one of the songs I like. It’s a oldie but goodie. I would like to live in that time and have my hair that big and voluminous.

freshman seminar project 1

Before my first image of the slideshow, I included a cover page that included the title and my name with a pink background. That itself explains who I am because I really like the color pink which could be seen as a “feminine” color. My first image is of a track field. I was on the track team for three years throughout high-school which was an important part of my life because my teammates became a family to me. My second image is of sushi, which is my favorite food. Over the summer, I would have sushi almost everyday after work. The third image is of a calculator. I chose a calculator to represent myself because I really enjoy math and would prefer to have that class over any other class (besides freshman seminar). My fourth picture is an image of puppies. I absolutely adore puppies and used to have a puppy for a year. I got so attached to it but my sister was really allergic to it and it didn’t end up working out, but now every time i see a puppy, i always pet it. The next image is of a bed, I am an extremely lazy person. If I don’t keep an alarm, I could sleep for 14-16 hours. My sixth picture is of Netflix, which also relates to me being lazy. I would chose to stay in and watch a movie on Netflix than go out. My seventh picture is of lip balm, I am completely addicted to Blistex. If I forget to bring it with me when I leave the house, I would either go back home or just buy a new one and keep two in my bag at all times. My last picture is of a swimming pool. I love to swim and can do it all day long. That’s one thing I’m not lazy for. When I was younger, that’s all I would do, I used to compete with the other kids at the place I used to swim. I think the image slideshow I’ve created speaks to who I am overall because those are my interests and daily activities that I participate in.
