On September 28th, 2017 my Art 1011 class and I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view the Egyptian and Greek Art due to the fact that we are currently learning about these time periods in class. Our teacher, Professor Morosse, thought that going to the Met would be a great way to teach and feel more connected to the art. We first went through the Egyptian exhibit and saw the Egyptian wall paintings and the Temple of Dendur. I very much liked the Temple of Dendur considering that in the room it’s in, one side of the room is just windows filling the room with natural light making it more interesting. My favorite part of the Egyptian exhibit was a small ancient Egyptian faience hippopotamus. It’s blue and has these intricate designs, I quickly took of a picture of it so that I could use it for my art report and it wasn’t until I got home that I realized that I took a picture of the wrong hippo. I took a picture of what the Egyptian faience hippopotamus is juxtaposed to. After the Egyptian exhibit was the Greek exhibit which is comprised of vases, sculptures, and other decorations. The vases were very intricately painted and each vase tells a story. Seeing them in person was far more interesting than learning about them in class. The last exhibit we went to was the Contemporary Art which I didn’t really get to see considering I had to leave early. Overall, going to the Met was a great experience and way to further teach the class about what we are currently learning.

Trip to the Met
On September 28th, 2017, my art history class took a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to view the Egyptian and Greek art exhibits. We have been learning about ancient art, starting with the Egyptians and working our way up to the Greeks and Romans. Our professor thought it would beneficial to visit the artwork for ourselves to feel more connected to the class. Unfortunately, I arrived a bit late for the meeting but I was not worried for I had been to the Met a few times in the past. Once I got there, the class was transitioning from Egyptian to Greek art. Seeing the Greek sculptures was an eye opening experience for me because I did not find them interesting in class, but once I saw them in person my opinion on the matter changed. We must write a short essay for our art class about a specific work of art and talk about how it made us feel and what we liked about it. I’m sure our professor would like us to incorporate some history into it as well. Overall, the trip was a pleasant experience.
Academics- The Metropolitan Museum of Art
On Thursday, September 28th, my Art-1011 class and I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art(aka. The Met) ;and it was my most memorable museum visit. The purpose of this visit was to get closer to the history and art that we had been studying in class. Therefore, we visited the Ancient Egypt exhibition(one of my favorites) and the Ancient Greece exhibition. After the professor dismissed the visit, everyone split up and continued on with their day. Kukai, Bryan, and I made our way out of the museum. On our way out, I stumbled upon some very interesting paintings; they looked liked photographs which caught my attention. I read the description on the side and analyzed the paintings for about 5 minutes. As I made my way back, Kukai and Bryan were no where to be found. There were hundreds of people walking around this huge hallway, and I was in the middle of it all. This was the beginning of my two hour journey around the Met. Kukai and Bryan were nowhere to be seen, and I did not know my way out. Instead of trying to find an exit, I decided to make the best of the situation I was in. I had gotten a free entrance to one of the biggest museums in the world, was I only going to see Ancient Egypt and Greece? I entered a big red hall with a new exhibition in each room. First, I spent some time flipping through some photographs taken by photo journalists from around the world. After, I took a turn into the WW1 hall, it was cool. I moved along and kept stumbling upon art more intriguing than the last. I walked around for about an hour until I finally decided that I wanted to grab lunch-only, one problem; I didn’t know how to get out. The more I tried to find an exit, the more I couldn’t. At one point, I ended up in the cafeteria on the lower level; it was too expensive. I took a picture of my favorite thing that I stumbled upon and I myself in one of the coolest hallways I have ever been in.
MET Trip
I’ve never been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, much less any museum focused on art. Once I arrived, there were already so many forms of art. White marble stairs spanning the length of the entire building, huge columns inspired from the Greeks, and two fountains painted with a glossy black was really a sight to see for me. Inside, I met with my art history professor and my classmates. Once more of my classmates arrived, our professor led us to the Egyptian section. I saw many artifacts like sarcophaguss’, spiritual statues of dogs standing like a human with a spear in one hand, and pottery. It’s amazing how they could have made these artifacts with just their hands and primitive tools. We then we to another part of the museum which focused on painting from Europe. Every room had a different theme like romance, scenery, death, et cetera. Our professor encouraged us to take pictures of artworks we liked; which I did. Overall, I wish I could have explored more of the museum but I had to go because I had something else to do. This trip exposed me to something new and I believe in widening one’s horizons.
The Met/Academics
On September 28, 2017, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art with my Art History class. I was able to see the art that we were studying in person. This was my third time at this museum, and for the first time I felt as though I understood more of my surroundings in the museum.
Currently in my Art History class, we are studying about Ancient Egypt and Greece. When I saw the Egyptian pyramid right in front of me, I realized that it’s truly amazing what the Met has to offer. Most of the hieroglyphics inscribed on the pyramid were very legible and neat.This pyramid showed the order of the Egyptian culture.
Other than that, the Greek art consisted mostly of vases and decorations. In addition, my class also went to the contemporary section of the museum. Contemporary art will be the next subject that we will learn in class. Overall, I enjoyed this experience very much, and I am excited to continue learning in Art History.
Metropolitan Museum of Art
I recently visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and I was captivated by all the history it holds. I went to the Egyptian and Greek/Roman exhibits, they both were filled with hundreds of ancient artifacts. My favorite display was the Temple of Dendur, part of the Egyptian exhibit. One side of the room was just windows, letting in natural light, allowing the beauty of the temple to really be seen. I really liked that I was allowed to walk inside part of the temple, I felt as if I was a part of history.
Museums can sometimes be boring but because the MET holds so much history I found it interesting. The artifacts are from so long ago, times were completely different. It intrigues me that we have these pieces of history to learn from. The sculptures in the Greek/ Roman exhibit were beautiful, it was cool to learn about their style and culture.
Academics
Just recently, my art history class and I, as part of our grade, had to go to the Met (no not the baseball team.) We explored the exhibit of ancient Egypt as well as roaming through ancient Rome and ancient Greece with a final destination at the contemporary art exhibition. Though we spent little time at the museum (about an hour/hour and a half) I really realized how thankful I am to have a chance to go to such a school like Baruch College where it is completely not out of the norm to just have class at one of the most renown and most famous museums in the world. It’s one thing to see an ancient sarcophagus of an Egyptian civilian on a slideshow and another to be able to see its dimensions with my own eyes. For that, it’s truly a blessing to further my higher educational academics at such a metropolitan school like Baruch.
The Met trip
The Metrepolitan Museum Of Art visit was with a lot of students in the same art class as I was. My favorite part of the museum was where they held the old paintings in the past as well as the wax sculptures. The wax sculptures were or horses and poses in the past. I was especially amazed by the horse sculptures, since for me, even drawing horses were difficult. The paintings ranged from different art techniques used in their works of art. Each time period had a certain style that was used when the artists painted. One for example that stood out to me was The North Cape by Moonlight by Peder Balke. The light coming from the clouds shines on the people on the boat in the water. The other area that I was at the location where I took the selfie. The way that the room was layed out to suit visitors. The other places that I visited were with the Native Americans and the Greece area. The greek area had a lot of busts that were displayed out for the visitors to see.
FRO museum
i went to the metropolitan museum of art for Art and visited the Egyptian and Greek section. this wasn’t the first time so not much emotional impact, but was an interesting trip. we focused on learning Egyptian temples, coffins, and stone statues. the temples and statues were large and had overwhelming grandiose power. The Greek section had stone statues but with more exaggerated detail. later, we visited the western art section. we saw art that changes styles and emphasis depending on the time period and artist. there were many forms of art ranging from podiatrist to landscape and the emphasis changed from religious and stylistic to realism. the whole experience was fun because I was able to view different culture and form of art. Later, if I have time, I might visit the metropolitan museum of art again to get the full experience rather than a rushed tour for class
Project X
- So I attended one of the CUNY welcome week parties titled “Project X.” He excitement from simply thinking about it was overwhelming. It seemed like just yesterday, I was starting my first day of middle school and now I was about to attend my first real college party. Upon arriving, we heard the bass booming music and caught a glimpse of the strobe lights. Instantly, we knew that it was going to be a great night. Unfortunately, we had to wait on line but every step closer to the door only made the excitement stronger. After finding a hiding place for our belongings, the fun began. Ultimately, I had a great night and it was a great way to kick off my first year of college. And so far, college is everything I thought it would be and more. I couldn’t be happier here at Baruch.
