On Friday the 15th, Skylar, Cynthia, and I all decided to go to the Career Fair at Baruch. It started at 12:00 and ended at 4:00, and we all had to wear professional business attire in order to get in. We waited on the line from the basement into the lobby in order to go to the fair, and then we were overwhelmed by how crowded it was inside. There were a plethora of dressed-up students and inside the fair we gathered some information from various business, such as Barnes and Noble and TD Bank. I decided to approach those two corporations because I’m interested in marketing and I would like to work for large corporations such as these. It was a good idea to go now to the career fair now as a freshman so we could get an idea for what to expect when we’re actually looking for internships as sophomores.
Prayers at the Hillel
As a Jewish student here at Baruch having something that helps me connect to my Jewish identity is truly helpful. At 3:50 the Hillel in our vertical campus holds afternoon prayers, an essential part of my day. Right after freshman seminar, I like to go over there sometimes with my dear friend Andrew Teigman, and we interact with the local Jewish People and those who are interested in finding out more about Israel the Jewish state and their Jewish identity. Daily Prayers are an essential part of my day and I love experiencing this daily event especially at the Hillel where I am surrounded by not only the diversity of Baruch but by the diversity of the Jewish population here at Baruch. I have a profound enjoyment of religious and cultural experiences and love meeting new people. The Hillel at Baruch has provided me with the perfect environment for just that.
UCLA
During the second week of school, I attended a UCLA meeting. UCLA is a social club at school that stands for United Chinese Language Association. During the GIM event, prospective members played a game where scenarios were acted out and whoever could not continue the “scene” or ad lib it was the one who lost. I found it rather entertaining and so did my friend. Besides the game, general information about the club itself and upcoming events were also presented. So far, the event calendar includes large scale gatherings such as the Mid Autumn Festival and The Lunar Festival which will take place a few months from now. UCLA also hosts plenty of creative learning workshops such as a lantern making workshop and Mochi DIY day that will take place over the course of the semester. Moreover, it was announced that there will be a fundraiser where dumplings will be sold. This event allowed me to branch out and meet new people. Andrew Teigman FRO
Right after class I went over to the Baruch Hillel on the 3rd floor. The second I walked all the students and faculty members asked me my name and were so nice. They explained to me the different kosher food they sell and have. They also have many classes on religious studies with pizza or food. That is good to know because there is not so much access to kosher food while studying in Baruch College. They also informed me of the midday services they have. This was crucial because sometimes I need to pray in the middle of the day and no i know where to go. Also they have this 7 dollar kosher sandwich deal. Since kosher food is so expensive which is perfect when i’m in a rush just run over and grab some food. The actual environment of the hillel was a great chill. There were people eating hanging out working learning. It was really nice to have such a diverse group of jews all just trying to enjoy their time in college. Also, it is right next to the ping pong and pool room so i saw some pretty intense games of that which was cool. Also, the coaches and chairs are super comfy great place to work in the future. I want to thank FRO for having me really give the Hillel a shot and see what it is about.
