Enrichment Blog Post # 3: Career

This Thursday I attended a CUNY EDGE workshop being run by Rebecca Marrero. The workshop goal was to teach and inform about proper business etiquette. From the workshop I got information that I already knew and information that was new to me. The information that I already knew was like basic obvious things. Such as be professional at all times. Other information that I already knew about was stuff I learned previous workshops and programs. An example of that is to use a subject, so as to make sure that your email gets read. So it just re-instilled the truthfulness behind the advice. The information that I did not know until the workshop feels that they will come in handy in the future when I am in a professional setting. One that I did not know is that you are supposed to introduce the most important person or the highest ranking first. I had no idea and I will most likely need that in my future line of work. Another thing that I learned is that you should use a signature in your emails. Stating your name and contact information, and also stating that I am an undergraduate and my class (i.e 2021). The instructor gave us a email template to have us write a email for a scenario. Which she used to show us what is good to do and what we should avoid in certain scenarios. She also had volunteers come up,I didn’t want to but she called me out because no one else wanted to. She gave us a task and it was to have one volunteers to introduce the other to me. The setting was an office party and we each had a ranking. She did it to have a visual example of business etiquette. At the very end of the workshop she gave a pamphlet.

Enrichment Workshop 2 :Student Life

Last Thursday I attended the club fair. I have been to all the club fairs this semester however this one was different than the rest. This club fair was not spread throughout the school this time it was in the Gym. Which was a easier to find all the clubs that I missed last time. However with the amount of people crowded around it became difficult to navigate. Besides the difficult parts it was a fun event to attend. The vibe of the event was nice. The amount of culture clubs that are here was surprising to me. In my old school they had little to no clubs so this was a culture shock. I quite enjoyed the food aspect of the club fairs again. I can not tell you the name of the food or what it consisted of only that it tasted good. An interesting but slightly terrifying thing that happened to me was being recruited by the step team. It started off fine but ended with me being surrounded by a wall of tall, large men. Although the club seemed interesting there was others I like more. For example the Caribbean, Soca, and West Indian club. A club I was surprised to see was the Archery club. I was able to hold a bow and arrow for the first time. As soon as I walked in I found the club I’ve been looking for since school started, The Grid. Before I left I saw this stand that looked interesting. It was like a tiki hut and I went to it to see what it was about. I saw that it was for registering to vote. I thought it was an cool way to display such an important thing. I would have gone and done it since I haven’t done so yet. But I decided to wait until I have the time to spare. That fair was fun and informative

Today was the study abroad fair. I went because I want to be able to know what options there are for me to go and experience new places while also learning. I visited differet booths that were set up. I talked to the people there and asked questions about the programs that they offered. One of the booths I went to was the one for F.I.T. another CUNY school. I decided to check it out because one of my best friends goes there and I wanted to talk to her about it afterwards. I saw photography option which seemed really cool. I’ve always been interested in photography and thought it could be a great opportunity to also go to India. I asked the lady if I would get credits for these classes because they were only three week courses. She said I would but i should go to the study abroad advisor to see if they are transferable. Which is something that I will do when I get the time. I also checked out The College At Brockport booth. They had a pamphlet on summer an winter programs. Which is exactly what I wanted to do. So it will probably be the program that I will focus on the most. Another booth that i checked out was the Baruch exchange program for the Dominican Republica. Similar to why I went to the F.I.T booth was because my boyfriend is Dominican and he often goes there with family. So it would be nice to go there and learn about the country through firsthand experiences. Its also during the summer so its a chance we can go at the same time and I can get to know more of his family. I also took several years of spanish in school and don’t remember any of it. So I am hoping o can learn better from people who speak the language everyday. Traveling is something I’ve always wanted to do and with these programs I can while also learning. This image requires alt text, but the alt text is currently blank. Introductory Post

My name is Diamond-Tiara and I enjoy reading and eating. My attended major is business management.<img class='wpa-image-missing-alt size-medium none' src='https://blogs.baruch.cuny.edu/fro17fta/wp-content/plugins/wp-accessibility/imgs/alt-missing.png'
Over the summer I was given the book The Book of Unknown Americans to read for my Freshmen seminar class. After reading it, I see that I enjoyed the way the other included the backstory of the other people in the building. It gave them depth and character. You were able to make better judgements on them knowing how they made it to this point in time. It added to me a charm to the story.
