Blog Post #1 Nahuel Aguirre

This past week I attended an interest meeting to hopefully be a part of Beta Alpha Psi. Beta Alpha Psi is a professional, high honors fraternity that mainly deals with Finance, Accounting and CIS majors. Right as I walked in the room I realized how high the demand is to be a part of this fraternity. The room was full of students and it was pretty chaotic trying to find a place to stand. As the meeting began, I could already feel the sense of professionalism from the members as they dressed in business attire. What was very unique to me was that the fraternity is actually co-ed, with one of their female members actually introducing herself as being a vice president at one of the departments within the fraternity. The “Rush chairs” began to explain the experience of rushing for the fraternity and what is required to really have an opportunity. They stated that you needed to have a 3.5 GPA or above, attend most if not all the events they host and to really show interest to the fraternity. They offer so much support and connections to the real world that it would almost be impossible to not have opportunities waiting for you after you graduate. I was interested from the start, but they really had me hooked when they President of the fraternity went on to say how almost all of their members graduate with a full time job to one of the Big Four, which are some of the biggest professional servicing networks in the world. This seems like the right fit for me, but I understood it would be a big commitment to have so I didn’t want to dive into such a big responsibility when Im still adapting to college. So as I walked out of the meeting, I made the choice to rush my sophomore year. This way I’m more comfortable with my school work and have more knowledge on how the academic curriculum works here at Baruch.
