Last Thursday I had the pleasure and misfortune of attending the Esports Association’s general interest meeting. Before you make any assumptions about why I had such mix reviews about this, let me explain the misfortune part. See the people here are mostly video gamers. Most people who play the video game League of Legends. The League community has one of the most cringiest lingo I know of. Its one thing to read it in a chat message, but its a whole other story when you hear people incorporate it into their everyday language. Now to be fair, it was probably one person who continuously used that type of language, in addition to that though, that person also incorporated rather foul annoying language making the meeting slightly unpleasant.
Now on to the good part. Normally I would say I had fun meeting people but I didn’t get much to talking to others and the ice breaker was rather embarrassing. It was though fun to be around people who had a similar interest to you. Just about all the games that this clubs focuses on, I play. There is also a causal side to the club that I can join since I don’t qualify for the competitive part of the club.
Generally I also like how this club seems to be a small tight knit group since I get slight anxiety around huge groups of people and just rather not talk. I can probably make friends with the people here and have a nice time. I cant wait for the group meetings even though I have no idea what happens during club meetings.
It’s also pretty cool that certain school computers have these games installed. I also learned a lot about the competitive team this school has. The players are all ranked rather high on leader boards and I can potentially can be like them one day.
