Freshman Seminar

1st Blog- Student Life

On Thursday, August 31st, I not only had the opportunity to meet USG, but I also was given the chance to learn about amazing internships and organizations. I went to the fair a bit after my second class ended, which was around 12:30pm. Once I got there, I expected there to be more clubs and way more people, even though there was still a good amount of people there. I also expected there to be more food, considering there was only sweets, like Oreos and Nutella. I expected there to be more food because the fair was taking place during lunch time. However, I really enjoyed meeting new people and interacting with USG because I got to step out of my comfort zone and interact with them. I even took a cool picture with some of the members of USG! In addition, some of the girls asked me who my peer mentor was and I said Paul and they were like Paul! “Did he make you come to this?”. My response was “no! I decided to come on my own.” Additionally, at the fair, I was given a few cool gifts. For instance, a blue fidget spinner, pens, post-its, an iPhone stand, and even Axe deodorant and spray! (which I gave to my older brother). Furthermore, another cool activity that I was able to participate in was winning a Baruch winter Sweater! I was looking forward to the raffle winner because I was the first person to enter. The way to enter was by writing your name and cell-phone number on a yellow post-it. The post-it was immediately then placed in a raffle jar, and the winners were called at 2:30pm, the end of the fair. Unfortunately, I didn’t win but that was pretty expected considering probably half of the students in the school entered in the raffle. Although the fair was lots of fun, something I wish that was done differently, is the location of the fair. It took place at the rowdiest area, by the stairs and escalators on the second floor. I found it quite difficult to get through people and at times, I felt like leaving because it was so loud and chaotic. My experience at the mini fair was fun because I had never been to a fair at Baruch before. I look forward in participating in academic and career based events in the future and blogging about each experience, as well.
