Blog Post #2 – Marko Grgic (Student Life)

Since I have been a Baruch student for nearly a month now, I figured that it’s probably a good idea for me to get involved in some type of club or activity. I checked out the club fair last Thursday to see what clubs might interest me.

When I got there, I was greeted with a ton of enthusiastic students who were beaming with school spirit. As I walked in, I saw there were a ton of tables set up for the various clubs in Baruch. I walked around and noticed that there were a ton of clubs that revolved around the idea of art, diversity, and culture. I reached one club that caught my eye: the E-Sports Association. This club looked like fun because I would get to meet people who played similar games and have similar interests as I do. A representative of the club explained what the club’s primary focus was, and this definitely caught my interest. Most of the games that the club was focused around were games I played as well. This club, to me, seemed like a place to play, relax, and forget about school for a while. In addition, it looks like it teaches sportsmanship and teamwork. I got a voucher that allowed me to get free characters in League of Legends and thanked her for her help.

I was particularly looking for Hack for Baruch, which was a club focused around coding and entrepreneurship in the tech field. I did not see them, however, which meant that I either completely overlooked them or they did not show up. This club, however, is one that I am eager to join.

As I kept walking around, I made eye contact with a representative of one of the many art clubs in Baruch. She showed me some of her (breathtaking) works and explained the primary focus of her art club. I was tempted to join considering I like art, but I have no experience drawing, painting, or anything of the sort. Another art club had a picture of my favorite character from Seinfeld up. This club definitely seemed more appealing to me because they had good taste in art as well as TV shows. Somebody came up to me and asked if I wanted to put my email down and join their newsletter, but I said I wasn’t interested. I just wanted to see George Costanza.

Overall, the club fair was an amazing opportunity to see all the different types of clubs at Baruch. It also allowed me to see how diverse Baruch truly was not only in terms of students, but in terms of clubs and activities. Every person “advertising” their club was kind and helpful, which shows how strong Baruch’s school spirit is. Because of this club fair, I am more open to the idea of joining a club or even starting my own.
