Blog Post #2 Stephanie Tsao Ng (Student Life)

One day when walking to class, I got stopped by someone nearby the elevators and was informed about myBaruch accounts and an upcoming Club Fair that was going to be held in the main gym. I was thrilled to know about this. I never really had a chance to get involved in anything when I was in high school; we didn’t have many options to choose from. I plan on majoring in something business-related (most likely finance or accounting), so I looked up some clubs related to those fields on myBaruch before attending the event. I found about the Finance and Economics Society, the Accounting Society, and the Baruch Traders Club.

I was going to attend a workshop at the same time so I wanted go straight to the clubs I was interested in, get the information I needed, and leave. Unfortunately, things never go as planned. I found both the Accounting Society and the Baruch Traders Club without much effort, but I wasn’t able to find the Finance and Economics Society, which was the one I was most interested in. I walked around for quite a long time trying to find it until I finally gave up. I decided I could try visiting their club room some other time instead.

I talked to people from the Baruch Traders Club and I kind of liked it. I’m thinking about joining them next semester when I’ll probably have more time. I also came across an organization called Ascend that apparently is one of the largest business organizations on campus. I got to talk to the secretary of the organization and got information about their upcoming events and more. They have a lot to offer, everything from networking events to workshops for professional development. I will definitely attend one of their events to get to know them better.

In the end, I got to know almost everything I needed to know and even had enough time left for the workshop. It was a really nice experience. However, the event was a bit too noisy and it was hard to talk to people in there. I’ll probably have to visit the club rooms of all the clubs that interest me in order to get more in-depth and specific information. The hard thing now would be deciding which club to join. I guess I might join two if I can make the time.
